There are even cars that come without a temperature gauge, which I feel is eve nmore essential - eg. Toyota Picnic, Kia Picanto

With the normal meter type, you can still monitor the temp.

But those auto ones, by the time the red light comes on, will you notice it & take immediate action.

My friend who owns a high mileage Toyota Picnic 2.0, did not notice the red water temperature warning light when it came on and when he did, mistook it for some other warning symbol.

Ended up with expensive repairs.

Does it cost so much more just to add a water temp metre on the dashboard?

i thk the red light will not comes on immediately. it will blink first (yellow) indicating temp is building up. same like a traffic light, from green to red, there will be amber.

some cars with the conventional temp gauge also ends up with a overheating engine [sweatdrop]

it all depend on the driver

it's amazing how ur tacho question transform into temp meter in a Picnic... [thumbsdown]

so let's come back to the topic.. i can only think of Nissan March at this moment, cos frn is driving one. He fitted a aftermarket, cant remember which brand tho' and it's not very difficult.

My previous car, Citroen Xsara 1.4 also did not hv a tacho. My mechanical has a 1.6 meter and change for me at a small cost. I mean the whole speedo/tach meter, original!

which car u driving dat doesnt hv tacho?

then ur friend is to blame for his own ignornant....

even for meter type... the pointer might dis-engage from the coil mechanism behind.

One wont even know the engine is overheating until its too late.... cos the pointer is spoilt & stuck @ centre mark.

its happened to my old Datsun 120Y

water temp metering motoring system is already in place. Just tat the one who should be monitoring it chose to ignore the sign

G10 corolla X model (low end model) doesn't have one even for their manual transmision version.

I really do not feel "secure" driving a car without a tacho.

Really don't understand why car manufacturers choose to save cost on such feature.

Not really.. a gauge is not really impt.. a temp warning lamp is more essential.

If your friend can ignore a warning lamp, then he will even be more likely to ignore a guage which doesn't even prompt him when there's overheating.

Usually when a warning lamp come out, it's telling the driver that it's going to be overheating soon, thus stop car to cool down..NOT that it's overheated and up lorry; and don't open up and add water immediately. [:/]

and do people know what is overheating just by a water temp guage?

The old Nissan VIP..

then the newer one came with the tachno..

So are you looking for one? Frankly, we don't really need one for normal driving..
