Yup, as compared to Japan, Spore Japanese restaurant is nothing. Japan's sushi is more fresh & good!

Totally agree !! [thumbsup] They even try to cook in front of you to make you appreicate their food.

Peace Bro [angel]

This afternoon was having lunch together with my family at the Sun Plaza outlet.

The menu , services and most important of all - the food is of much more higher quality than the Changi Airport and Toa Payoh branch which I have visited previously.

It seems that every of their outlets has different type of food for order.Wonder why ?

The chef in a good mood?

Don't go Sakae. Its bad.

Sushi Tei is better but its not up to standard either. Maybe I got higher expectations [rolleyes] but thats what you expect when you've tried the real thing in Japan. Make a trip there and try it for yourself. It is really different [:)]

in the event flying to japan is a hassel, try following top japanese restaurant in singapore (in my opinion - but can be costly).

we cannot have best of both worlds, in singapore japanese restaurant scene - most are specialised only for certain category of food.

for normal sushi and sashimi and usual japanese hot dish

1) shirashi (ritz cartlon hotel)

2) tatsuya (crown prince hotel)

3) nogawa (sentosa golf and country club)

average sashimi per piece is about 5-8 dollars while sushi per piece should be also 5 dollars. among the 3, nogawa is less costly but quality is equivalent. a

for japanese traditional and fine-dinning

1) nadaman (shangri-la hotel)

for deep fried pork loin (they only serve this)

1) tonkichi (takashimya 4 level or 5 level) - this is not the top range restaurant - very family style, and is not costly)

for teppanyaki

have yet to find out one which is really good even though most say keyaki (pan pacific hotel) is good.

frankly if ever u try all the top range in singapore, you will never want to take a look at those serve in any conveyor belt shops (lets not name it, u should know).

but frankly do not think is a good idea to expose young children to such a good restaurant otherwise in future his/her expectation on food will be extremely high.

Go try Akashi @ Paragon. Its quite good as well.

You wanna try Okinawan cuisine? Go L4 @ Tanglin Shopping Centre. Its quite good as well.

And yeah I have not been to conveyor belt chains ever since I sampled the real thing many years back. You should go to Kyoto for their sushi... Its simply the best! The otoro melts in your mouth. The otoro in Singapore is not as good because the chefs can't slice the pieces as well as the Japanese chefs.

sakae sushi in my opinion is more like a fast food chain...but kudos to them for allowing any average singaporean to have a faint taste of japanese food.

I share the same thoughts [grouphug][grouphug][grouphug]

We don't eat Japanese food very often , maybe once every 2 months when we feel rich [:p] .

Anyway , I have not had a chance to try on those local high end japanese restaurants which serve authentic sushi.

You should try it. The rice tastes sweet and the topping is larger than the "rice ball" whereas Singapore version is vice versa

[laugh] finally i found someone who share this thoughts with me.

to be more blunt - for that price that they are charging is simply craps.

frankly, i wonder why they did not come out with counter service like macdonald

or burger king to make it more affordable.

contax, if u go to a local high end joint does not neccessary mean need high end $$$ - it really depend on what you order, it can be affordable as well. same token, low end restaurant also can be expensive if u go for the top of the range menu.

The price after some sushi & main dish added up is sometimes not cheap like what you have said [nod][nod][nod]

Could have gone for better quality Jap food served by those restaurants one at an almost similar or slight Ex pricing [nod][nod][nod]

tonkichi in ngee ann city, the portion is big so can be shared and moreover no raw stuff all deep fried serve with japanese cabbage (excep this one rate). specialised for deep fried pork lion. otherwise frankly most japanese restaurant especially good one are not targeted for kids
