Mage Clutched August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 good for you .. stay left ..please don't even bother to go the middle lane. Concerned about "CO2 emission, environmental issues, prolong global oil resources, buy time for the world to find an alternative to petrol, etc... " My take, stop using the car totally... Kohks Neutral Newbie August 25, 2007 Author Share August 25, 2007 I have read through teh articles. In summary - 50km/l to 65km/h is the most fuel efficient speed. Above that, the drag increases fuel consumption. btw i think just travelling at 65km/h only will not improve FC that significantly. personally i think the technique of feathering the accelerator will greatly improve FC. with this technique, even driving at faster speed, one can still make significant improvement to FC. Kohks Neutral Newbie August 25, 2007 Author Share August 25, 2007 recent news : "75% of drivers in Hong Kong have never tried to improve fuel economy, ranked second worst among all 11 countries and only slightly better than the worst performing country, Singapore" from : http://www.shell.com/home/content/hongkong...ey_07_0802.html or Global report reveals motorists
Josephteo 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Great website bro... those people are like professionals in Fuel Efficiency... Amazing.. I follow some of the techniques and now i get average of 16km/l on my Mitsubishi Lancer Manual 1.
Kohks Neutral Newbie August 25, 2007 Author Share August 25, 2007 I was amazed, too. remember the Shell Challenge which was won by a Sonata 2.0l with a result of 32km/litre. i was skeptical with that result until i came across this website. now i am a believer. it just goes to show with a bit of proper technique, it is possible to achieve significant FC. what techniques did you used? other than those common sense like removing unnecessary weight, accelerate gently, etc... currently i am trying to pulse and glide. it seems to be much better than just keeping at constant speed at 65km/h. sometimes i draft or surf big vehicles. sometimes i saw a few bros on the road also doing the same thing. after i master some of this techniques, i am will try this techniques at higher speed, say 70 to 80km/h.... my car do not have a FC gauge, so my test will based on a few tanks before i can tell its effectiveness. Ed2win2 Neutral Newbie August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 (edited) How can 50-65km/hr is most fuel efficient? The speed is only at 3rd gear to reaching 4th gear. 50mph (miles per hr) sounds more reasonable, not 50km/h Edited August 25, 2007 by Ed2win2
Ed2win2 Neutral Newbie August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 The optimum fuel efficient speed for most cars shld be 80-90km/hr
S7834g Clutched August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Well,I've once got 16km/l for my 05 Honda Civic just to experiment how efficient my car can get. Here's one sure way to save fuel for sure...try to compete your take-off,....with pickups and heavy vehicles. If you're head to head with them after 5 secs everytime, i'm sure your FC will improved. Genie47 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Pulse and glide is the taxi drivers technique. It is not new. Go hail a Comfort taxi driven by an ah pek and you will know.
Josephteo 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Hi... I thought the pulse and glide technique requires "autostop" i.e. switch off of the engine? I didn't try that one coz i dare not turn off my engine at such high speed.. I do draft/surf big vehicles too..but i mainly pay attention to accelerating gently, coasting to a stop. My car's manual..so maybe that plays a part too... i also try to use as little air con as possible. Another reason could be because i usually travel on expressway like 75% of the time and city 25% my average speed is 90kmph on expressways..
Genie47 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 You are right. It is MPH not KpH. The website is American afterall. What the website says is no big secret to European drivers particularly German drivers. In the city, don't let your RPM exceed 2k, if you need the torque, 2.5k is the highest you can go for most situations for the lower gears. Keep to speed limits. 80kph is nice however 70kph is nicer you can still overtake the slower trucks and buses on the expressways. Finally, unlike the Americans, go for a cheaper non-renewable fuel. CNG is not renewable but change from a more expensive to a cheaper non-renewable isn't a sin. You still save money and the burn is cleaner. 14km/L compared to 11 or 12 from most Aveo owners. With CNG, I can hit 290km/12kg of gas.
Genie47 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Our taxi drivers tap the gas pedal intermittently as a version of their pulse and glide. It works.
Lucien Neutral Newbie August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Aiya, wat economy can u get. U can't compare FC with other countries. Y? Only nice EXPRESSWAY only has a POOR miserable speed limit of 90km/h. Other countries have 130km/h. Actually cars travelling in final gear or cruise gear is the MOST FUEL EFFIECIENT. For SG, HK or places that are small, u HARDLY get to USE FINAL OR CRUISE gear. Hope it clears your doubts why SG ppl are non FC wise.
Vtim 3rd Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 change your brake pads only after 4 1/2 year ??? That's great isn't it? my previous car, Honda Civic, HondaKah changed mine after only 40,000km. This is when my braking style is similarly to yours. Next time i will want to check for myself first before letting the AD change the brake pads. Also from the website, some of the drives were conducted using tyre pressure at 47psi. my eyes nearly pop out. I pump my tyres to about 280Kpa or about 40psi. Imagine 47psi !! Even at 280KPa, some motorist would have call me siow !! As this is definitely not recommended for those who drives and corner at higher speed. AT these tyre pressure i take care not to drive too fast. at this psi, we will hydroplain when the road are wet after a downpour or when it is still raining
Genie47 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Actually the price of the car, COE and all plus the killer loan rates drown whatever you hope to achieve with good FC. The only way is to use a cheaper fuel if you can do it w/o the dastardly warranty clause.
