Lancer EX 1.5

To all,

I have been wondering why ppl keep saying Lancer EX is good...cannot figure why...

1. Poor Pickup: in fact worse than my current sunny 1.5A

2. Noisy engine: noise level in EX(2rpm) higher or equivant than sunny (3rpm)

2. poor workmanship: joints @ door panel, boot cover and spare tyre compartment are either badly done or I can see cost-cutting there...

No. 3 is main point which disgusted me and make me think: Am I paying for what I get for a good workmanship [thumbsdown] ? Or am I paying for styling design and its getgdet [thumbsup] only?

Lastly this is NOT flaming posting to Lancer EX lovers or owners. This is just sharing to all brothers in MCF [gossip] .

Test drove the 1.5 Ex yesterday, I think it looks really cool. [thumbsup]

1. Poor pickup: quiet true, but acceptable considering it's a relative big car for 1.5l

2. Noisy Engine: Very bad. In fact, it would be the single reason why i did not place a booking.

3. Poor workmanship: Din really examine closely, but was acceptable to me.

Really love the design, but the noise its such a turn off.

From wat i heard, its more like the exhaust note. Engine does sound abit rough but its the exhaust note tts intruding into the interior. I tink maybe sound proofing will help abit? I like the car design too esp the dials...Build quality i tink is ok. Find tt its better than most of the 1.6 and below japanese cars. But im mre concern abt the fuel consumption. Anymore feedback from Lancer EX 1.5 owners regarding the fuel consumption before i sign the dotted line?! :)

I think most pple will have a "slow" feeling due to the weight and stability of the EX. I feels slow too during the test drive, but actually already hit 80 easily. Reminds me of those conti cars.

As for the sound, SE called me and say its due to the extractor, and some folks go outside and change it to a normal one and the "sporty" sound is gone. Anyway, I feel C&C shud note that not everyone like that sounds and ask the manufacturer to get rid of it, at least for the 1.5l.

Huh? Change extractor? Isn't it going to void the warranty?

I think they are still got many pp will buy due to the design. So Engine noisy, poor workmanship and FC is so so is not important liao as long as the car look nice to them.

[laugh]

So it is just like appearance is more important than quality of the car.

Nowadays all new cars come with ABS, airbag/s and more compared with older generation ones.

Manufacturers have to cut their cost somewhere.

That's the way future butter and bread will be.

Is it as noisy as Boxer engine?

Pickup wise i think is ok, slower then the old vios(current), i tested the new Vios also suffer from the slow pickup problem, due to some electronic control. Hear from S.E.

Engine noise, did not really notice it, then again maybe a vios is as bad. I also notice it when i try to floor it to 3,000rpm.

Overall, i think is a good car for its price, given the space and looks.

of course, a nissan is very very quiet(many of my relative drives nissan), and i think if you move from nissan to any jap cars you will find it noisy..... Unless its a honda.

Nissan is very quiet. Esp the Latio & Cefiros [thumbsup] Sat in my friend's MY registered Lancer EX 2.0. The engine is very noisy. Engine noise level is similar to an Alfa 147's twinspark engine excecpt that the engine note don't sound half as nice.

Road noise is another problem for this car (wonder if it is due to his 18" tyres) Other than that, the car seems rather solid & well built.

Anyone has any ideas how to reduce the noise generated from the engine? Will going for additional insulation help?
