Which Model for 2nd Hand Cheap OPC

Thinking of buying a OPC as family 3rd vehicle.

The 2nd hand model I am looking at is, mostly year 2006:

1) Kia Picato 1.1A

2) Kia Rio 1.4A (4 door)

3) Hyundai Verna 1.4A

4) Hyundai Verna 1.6A CVVT

5) Hyundai Getz 1.4A

6) Hyundai Getz 1.6A (5 door)

The Kia Rio and Hyundai Getz have the same engine, but the new Hyundai Verna is more expansive than the Kia Rio. Most resale Kia Rio come with sport rim, leather seat and colour door handle, but the Hyundai Verna come with only sport rim.

Hyundai Getz is more popular and should have better resale value, but the Verna has a newer engine which mean better FC. Verna is sedan and has more room at the back and storage. Getz is a hatch back, easier to handle.

Why on 2nd hand OPC car? Because they have low mileage (average 10000) and it save me almost $10K for a 2006 car (average resale price is $25K for a 1.4 car). A new model Kia Picanto 1.1A is selling at $27999 now without accessories. A old model Kia Picanto 1.1M is selling at $22999 with free body kits but without leather seat and sport rim (3 colour left).

its a weekend car so fc should not be as major a concern as price cos its difficult to recoup even the few thousand spent on fuel imho.

the verna although a newer engine is still a drinker as verfied by forumer feedback so i doubt you can see substantial savings if any - just check the fuel consumption database

apart from cheap any other considerations

you can try around for a 1.3 wira manual its around 16k and won t drink plus cheap servicing mods and bodykits from across the causeway

or for something a little better how about the gen 2 1.3, it should be around the verna price but looks nicer better specs and most probably more frugal with petrol plus great handling

Y only consider Korean car?

Have seat in a Gen2, but don't like it inside, maybe too sporty for me. I am old fashion type, so the Aveo is out too.

I have to fork out at least $30k for a 2006 Japanese OPC car, such as Vios and Mazda 2.

The Rio's engine is the same as Verna. Both of them are built on the same platform. Thus, the body specs are very identical. Even the interior of the Verna and Rio. If you look at them both, u'll realise they are very very similar. Verna has better specs in the sense of ABS & Airbag.

Yes, fuel and road tax should not be a concern.

My budget is below $25k cash including transfer fee and insurance, no loan.

The problem is, the transfer fee is approximately $500+ (for 1.4A and 1.6A cars) and NCB for insurance do not apply for another car. I intend to use my wife name since there is no NCB and this will cost me at least $1500. I do not intend to spend above $25k as I find it not justify for a OPC which my family would only use twice a week.

Looking at SGCARMART, my favourite is Hyundai Getz and Verna. Getz is a proven Korean car and Verna is a new sedan.

Not looking at manual car because my wife could not handle the gear well, especially on slope and filtering.

can t say much about verna cos have not driven it but feedback is that fc is still hovering around 10 km / l . drove the getz before, i like the handling due to its firewire design and the inside is amazingly spacious, maybe you need to go for a test drive to find out more. ps i think the getz still looks nicer.

in tat case go for Getz then. yr wife will find it easier to park

I like the Getz too, but for the same price, is it more worth to get a sedan (Verna)?
