Do you set aside a percentage of yr nett salary as savings or do you save only when there's loose change at the end of the month?

I set aside a fixed amount, spent the rest and let the remainder rolled over. So the "residue amount" could be steady, rising or falling over time depending on how much I spent. When it hit a high water mark, I transferred part of it out. It hasn't hit the high water mark for quite a while already... [sweatdrop]

Starting from this month, following advice from a book, I have embarked on a strict expenses diet. I put in just my estimated monthly expenses in the bank account. Let's see how it goes.

it can be done..

no commitments, no liabilities, no gf, no wifey, wears a skirt

Confirm garanteee can man

I meet four of your criteria up there, but I can't do it. Where can I find a skirt to help me? [laugh]

Let's see.

20% tax to Government

5% company shares

47% regular expenses (everything in already, zero frivolous expenses)

28% left if I were extremely frugal, which unfortunately I am not

[laugh][laugh][laugh] Girl's expenses are really low. If not married, can depend on BF to pay most of the bills, drive them around, pay for taxi etc, if married, can depend on hubby! Yet, all their money is their money. [sweatdrop]

Does anyone still does that in Singapore? It appears that this is also a vanishing trait.

I know some pple do not hv savings everymth. So, the variable bonus & 13th AWS (if any) that they get will be taken as savings.

She spend his $$ and save her own $$

Ur fren should dump her before its too late.

when a woman married, should she control / use husband's $? or ownself earn ownself take care of own $$?

should the husband let wife control if he is unable to save?

I believe its always good to have a joint account that is under the custody of the wife. Each month, both husband & wife will devote a certain amoutn of $ to be put into the joint account as savings for the family.

The rest of the money, is up to how each of them wants to use. Neither should control each other's spending unless one is a habitual gambler.

i nvr believe in controlling spouse's salary...

if u says get a sum for joint savings ok but controlling is a little extreme. maybe the husband is a spendthrift who gets easily tempted by gadgets etc??

back to topic.

financial consultants always mention that one should have savings equal to at least 6 months take home pay in order to be secure.

realistically speaking, how many would actually have $$$ equal to 6 months of their pay in savings. confused.gif
