Coolad 5th Gear March 1, 2008 Share March 1, 2008 me too... thanks for ascertaining my point(i know you are not)... 520i both 2.2 and 2.0 are craps.... just shrewd mkting on badge... (and i am not sure whether you know why the 2.2 version was terminated... coz too many premature transmission failures.. jurky startoffs... all point to a underpowered engine stressing out the transmission, ie drivers pumping the paddle too often and too hard... why leh??? you guess loh) ↡ Advertisement
Wt_know Hypersonic March 1, 2008 Share March 1, 2008 (edited) i'm sorry that i did not make myself clear. when i say lack of power, i do not mean performance car with turbocharge, supercharge, evo-like, sti-like performance delivery or going to track. what i'm saying is the 520 (body) does not match the 520 engine resulting lack of power, which defeats BMW ideology of 'driving machine'. Becos some people dont care about power people like me. i just need it to ferry clients and not go around the sepang track. do open up your mind Edited March 1, 2008 by Wt_know

Friendstar Supercharged March 1, 2008 Share March 1, 2008 As Dividtch pointed out, performance is not only 0~100 timing only. 520i power to weight is crap.. just like the 320... its superb handling cannot be realized... drivability is almost equal to none... most of the time you would be flating out the paddles trying to get some decent acceleration which always seem so distant....... PML/BMW Asia loves you.... great!!!

Trusteel Neutral Newbie March 9, 2008 Share March 9, 2008 What will be the FC for a COE BMW 316? Thinking of buying one with a 10year old coe
Qr25vet Clutched March 9, 2008 Share March 9, 2008 forget it. that engine has less than 100BHP...coupled with a heavy body...plus many wear and tear items...it'll "BRING MORE WORRIES"(B.M.W) engine's simple and easy to fix la but u wont wanna waste time waiting for the parts 2 arrive and also the time spent going in and out of the workshop(unless u do all one shot) my advice is 2 find a manual one...save u the trouble...320I or S18IS(twin cam one...not the single cam) and the 316's M43 engine runs on a timing belt... Relagsingh 4th Gear March 9, 2008 Share March 9, 2008 you mean like that? lets not forget there's many good beemers out there.... like the new M3 and 1 series coupe for instance. and... if not for that stoopid chris buangle

Cruzader Neutral Newbie March 9, 2008 Share March 9, 2008 Given a choice, I would prefer a BMW compared to Japanese models because of the quality and prestige and outstanding handling. Saw quite a number of prestigious BMW 520i on the road. Which one would u choose if u want a 2 litre sedan for business? Cefiro, Camry or a BMW? Qr25vet Clutched March 9, 2008 Share March 9, 2008 but do u wanna suffer from reliablity issues and high FC cos of the underpowered engine?? its kinda embarassing for passengers to tell u that your car is underpowered....i'd rather get the older 2.2L 520I...@ least thats better.... Coolad 5th Gear March 10, 2008 Share March 10, 2008 That depends on the target "audience". If they are traditionally rich businese men... then they will know that a 520i is low-end model... you are not going to get any extra points... might as well drive a higher end camry or cefiro for that matter. Miles 4th Gear March 10, 2008 Share March 10, 2008 (edited) didnt know traditonal businessmen are so car savvy that they scrutinize the trim level, etc... even if you de-badge. to the 89% of population who dont drive, they probably cant even differentiate between a 3 series and 7 series.... much less the trim level. and to the balance 11% of car owners here, i guess only about 30% of these are car snobs that look at every single detail of a car. the rest simply dont know or dont care. but they can definitely tell a BMW from a Toyota/Nissan, that's for sure. Cruzader Neutral Newbie March 10, 2008 Share March 10, 2008 If u can buy a BMW why worry about FC? Even though 520 don't have the power like it's bigger brothers, where are we? In Singapore. BMW 520 is good enough for Singapore roads. Which performs better/same as most Japanese 2.0l car with better/same specs and better quality. Of course if u want a fast BMW get the high end. BMW 520 is for those with 160k budget and wants to own a prestigious Badge. And with 160k can get faster cars. But not for BMW. Cos BMW cars are not cheap. P.S My own opinion. Cruzader Neutral Newbie March 10, 2008 Share March 10, 2008 Yes they may know that it's a low end model. But yet they also know u own a BMW. Let's for instance take this scenario: 1) What car do u drive? Ans: A)Nissan B)Toyota C)BMW Which one would u be proud to answer? ↡ Advertisement
