Coolad 5th Gear January 31, 2008 Share January 31, 2008 It is not necessary what is reported is true. It depends on what Toyota will produce in Thailand 4 d region. If d whole region is getting D-VVTi, we r getting D-VVTi. Tis is not something BM can control. It is basically decided either @ Toyota Motor Asia Pacific or @ Toyota Jp. 4 for those who r interested, keep urself updated wif tis URL: http://www.toyota.co.th/red/th/index.asp From this viewpoint, we could actually get the worst... it is exactly what happened in the ES-Civic... the whole region is getting the 2.0L DOHC version produced in Thailand, even as close as Malaysia... while we still stuck with SOHC D15/D17 version... but then again even with D-VVTi(i presume DOHC somemore), the torque/power curve still trails behind FD civic's SOHC R18A... so no big deal if it debuts here... ↡ Advertisement
inlinesix Hypersonic February 1, 2008 Share February 1, 2008 From my viewpoint, if whole region get D-VVTi, we get D-VVTi. However, civic is difference as it is made in Jp. If u understand d principle of Cam Phasing, i think u know that DOHC is required 4 D-VVTi. Lets check out d number from Honda Jp & Toyota Jp website: Honda Civic HP: 140/6.3k RPM Torque: 174NM/4.3k RPM Consumption: 17km/L Toyota Corolla Axio HP: 136/6k RPM Torque: 175NM/4.4k RPM Consumption: 17.2km/L
Kelpie 2nd Gear February 1, 2008 Author Share February 1, 2008 (edited) No much big difference. Exterior and Interior, new Civic still win, IMHO. Toyota doesn't care or no need to care, they just want more sales and more money. Regards, Edited February 1, 2008 by Kelpie
Coolad 5th Gear February 2, 2008 Share February 2, 2008 Which is why i admire Honda's engineering excellence.... One "head" less and still better... somemore you should also know that one "head" less also equate to better FC... which is very impt in today's petrol "climate", lastly DOHC engine has inherently more wear and heavier...so i see no strengths in Axio's D-VVTi vs Civics i-Vtec... even if it debuts here(remote), which we can safely assume when it does, it will be very very expensive and AD will again mkt it as some god-sent technology to cream the rest of the makes, which they did with the VVTi 9yrs back. And hordes of pple will buy it becoz of the Toyota badge and D-VVTi "super" technology...
Nazaki Clutched February 2, 2008 Share February 2, 2008 How abt Mercedes? They are the ones who uses V12 SOHC engines. :) SOHC doesn't mean any worst. Its just different way of doing things around.
inlinesix Hypersonic February 2, 2008 Share February 2, 2008 SOHC application 4 i-vtec is because only intake valve has VTEC. However, in order 4 D-VVTi 2 works, u need DOHC. Otherwise, cam phasing 4 both intake & exhaust valve will not b possibl. ↡ Advertisement
