Pisces69 6th Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 well, most new auto company did that and have to go through that stage, eg proton and hyundai. only now they start to have they own design. ======================== But if u look at the difference in the improvement between the Korean & Msia cars is enough to tell u that not ALL countries will make better cars in time. Some wil just go bankrupt unless their gharmen bails them out. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 I see a lot of comments like "give China made cars a chance to catch up, Japanese made cars also played catchup to conti cars 20 years ago" etc etc. This is like saying a new mobile phone company should produce a phone that weighs a ton and look like a brick and have to carry a suitcase size transmitter or whatnot and selling it next to a slick small mobile phones we have today. Which one do you think we'll buy? I mean we have all progressed!! It's like we used to wear diapers, does it mean we go back to wearing diapers again? (Ermmm ...maybe some of you still do..) Car technology is the same, everyone has progressed, moved on. Those stuck in the past producing crap car should be stuck in the past. Not in the now. Sorry if offend. But since China came into the world market, we started getting crap quality in all our daily products from food to electronics. I mean China food used to be good, but now it is downright dangerous in some of them. Life is about improvement but this is ridiculous, we're moving backwards because of C. (Not a China bashing but a low quality China product bashing Now let's get back to cars..he he ) =================== Fully agree. I have absolutely no confidence in anything made in China anymore. Pisces69 6th Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 Yes it seems like one of the main set backs for this car would be the price. ========================== I think the main set back is the quality.
Pisces69 6th Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 If a 11 years old company (Chery) can produce a car that can match Jap quality, the world will shakes! The Chief Engineer of Toyota will be very very very very stress..... Once upon a time, Japanese-made components were deemed as the lowest quality stuff made in the modern world. That was, of course way back in time till the late 60's, before the Japanese finally got their act together & to date have produced some of the world's most impressive products. I'm not saying that China WILL go down the same path eventually, but that there is a CHANCE that things will improve. Of course, by then the Japanese (and the Koreans for that matter) may have surpassed current standards & usher in a new benchmarking era for quality. We'll just have to wait & see. The Chinese and the Japs cannot be compared this way. To be honest, there are differences in culture and behaviour...Chinese more into get rich fast kind of stuff kill a few pple no problem attitude, etc, Japanese discipline and are hardworking,etc.... The Chinese will not get there if all this don't change... ======================= So very true.
Bearbear1494 Clutched March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 No offense bro, but by that statement you're generalising any product that comes out of China factories, not the manufacturers. Nowadays so many big brand names have moved their production lines over to China. Things like cell phones, computer peripherals, audio equipment, household appliances etc. Makers like Philips, Nokia, Black & Decker etc have factories/assembly plants in China. The key difference is in the QC of these factories. Of course the smaller plants don't give a hoot about QC, not when there're no foreign investors or bosses to report to. Even when you go to a high-end retail outlet, chances are China-made/assembled products can be seen. That's how they keep profit margins alive in the face of inflation everywhere. China-made products have their issues & problems, but we cannot deny that without them (low quality or not), we'd have some trouble affording items that we need on a daily basis. Inflation + no pay increase + garmen finding all sorts of ways to suck the commoners dry = Made In China is affordable = LL suck thumb unless got minister pay to buy from USA/Japan/Germany manufactured products. Perhaps one maker like Chery will have some potential partnership with some other big gun maker & seeing that they'd have to up the ante or lose that lucrative partnership, things just might improve. After all, it's all about the profits. Worldwide.

Beavc Clutched March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 That is the problem, it is all about profits - Chinese takes profit differently than japs and the japs, in my opinion, had gain a lot technically when they participated in Rally, races, etc. Teaming up with the big guns is one thing, but learning from them is another...unless there is a change in mentality else no way Jose... perhaps in the long run things might change...who knows...(but i still maintain my stand not in my life time with the current mentality) *The long run is a misleading guide to current affairs. In the long run we are all dead. = John Maynard Keynes*

I do believe there r good factories in China with decent QC (mostly owned by large foreign companies) but I doubt it is consistent. I think it's very hard to have the same quality of QC u wil find in a Jap or Korean factory. It all boils down to the mentality & quality of the pple there. I stopped buying anything made in China if I can help it and then I wil only buy items that r of low technology & cheap price. If it spoils, I just throw it away. I rather pay more for a better quality product that wil cost me less in the long run.
Pisces69 6th Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 U sure u dare to buy those vehicles which r made in China????? U have an accident with a bicycle & the bicycle rider goes home but u have to go to the hospital. Stick with your Korean tank. U r much safer & better off. Porche 5th Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 Yes it seems like one of the main set backs for this car would be the price. first time agree with you, at least this model have improved alot. Design nicer, but the price is not right

Bearbear1494 Clutched March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 Agreed. At this point in time, Chinese-made cars will not be on my consideration list. Perhaps 5 years later they'll actually start making road-worthy cars, then I'll do a retake on them.
Bearbear1494 Clutched March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 Consistency of the QC in those foreign-owned factories are by & large dependent on how stringent a standard the foreign company sets & enforces. But yes, currently some if not most of these "branded" products still pale in comparision with those that were previously produced in US or Japan. And you are right about paying more for something that will last longer than an equivalent cheaper product. This is what most of us have been trying to get through to DK all this while. Pay peanuts, get monkeys.
Calford 2nd Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 well, company like chery had made known to many countries. They are really working very hard in making their own engine. Calford 2nd Gear March 4, 2008 Share March 4, 2008 (edited) Also more serious in their product safety aspect. For example the A6 model will come with 8 airbags and re enforce body frame. Edited March 4, 2008 by Calford ↡ Advertisement
