may I ask if we need to get the log card certified by LTA or notary in order to be accepted by Thai ICA or just the normal computer print out will do?

The normal print out will do. No certification or notary is required.

Wow, bangkok is a hard target, especially for a first time drive to Thailand.

Most people do phuket, samui or hatyai. Id like to hear whether he did it too.

I salute those who drive to Bangkok.

The furthest I have ever covered is up to KL only.

For me, driving to Buangkok is more likely, definitely not Bangkok. :)

Yo. Having driven to Phuket three times and Bangkok once, take my advice and use a PROPER map - the kind that your gf holds upside down and has no idea how to read while you scream at her asking where the hell you are..haha

I've tried the 3G thing - doesn't work because the signals go in and out so google maps aint fast nor detailed enough.

GPS devices also lag quite far behind, and if the maps aren't downloadable via the internet, you need get it from someone in Thailand before you drive. Furthermore, some brands do not display backroads very well.

If you're nervous about getting lost, your best bet, no joke, really is compass and a proper map - take your Garmin, Siemens, etc etc only as a complement to a tried-and-tested failsafe navi. method.

Last but not least, do not forget your LTA-printed log sheet - and if the car isn't registered under your name, you need a signed letter of consent from the actual owner as I did (car was under my mum's name as insurance was cheaper). Also, be at the border around 10am in order to avoid a jam - the 7am opening hour sees alot of trading/business traffic so you might wanna avoid that. Those who are more experienced, pardon me if I got the timing wrong.

When you are on your way back to malaysia, DO NOT bring in fireworks. They check your car more stringently as compared to the sg-jb checkpoint. The first time, I got into trouble with them and bribing DID NOT WORK. lol.

O well, have fun, and please post pictures :P

SO has anyone done the Singapore to Bangkok drive?

There are many who drove there and back. For your info. many have joined

AA for the annual Highway Rally to/fro Bangkok and even to Cheng Mai.

I have been on these kind of drive in 1985. At that time no GPS only the

Thailand Tourist Police leads the way.
