YellowFlash Clutched May 17, 2008 Share May 17, 2008 i guess fast is pretty subjective, it depends on wat are we comparing it against? compare a sub 7s gtti with a toyota altis, the gtti seems very fast, compare it with a sub 4s evo, the gtti looks comparatively slow but if u want to compare it in its 1L class, its definately one of the fastest. ↡ Advertisement
Perseus76 2nd Gear May 17, 2008 Share May 17, 2008 right. thats for sure, its pretty subjective. but i know that in the past there are gtti doing around 6sec and less....and for a 1L i would say its damn fast. there are even jun stroker kit for this tiny monster.....this small car can really do wondersvfor its class... to me, i think its a legend already. u can never compare it to a current day evo just totally different class...the tech use has change so much since. and they did not continue to build new versions of gtti anymore...... come to think of it, i do know of starlet that has in excess of 240hhp...too bad borneo never bother to bring it in, in the older days, else there will be more excitment on the roads
Whyeme Clutched May 17, 2008 Author Share May 17, 2008 there are starlets built to over 300bhp in other countries
Othello Supersonic May 17, 2008 Share May 17, 2008 ah .... those were the days ..... where GTis , EGs , EFs, GTtis rule the roads ....... I remember abt 12 years ago, just walking around Kaki Bukit carmart, then saw a GTti. Car salesmen asked me and my frens, wanna try the power ? so me and 2 other frens boarded the machine ( the saleman drove) .... out we go ! the spool, the BOV, the head in the seat feeling ... still cant forget ... no doubt it will lose steam above 120kmh, but who cares
YellowFlash Clutched May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 yepp i guess thats right, cant compare 20yrs old technology with current ones, its really a pity there aint much pocket rockets around nowadays. its such a pity our local ADs did not bring in the newer generation of pocket rockets like the vitz turbo and boon x4. Qpik Supercharged May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 Such small cars going at such high speed. Chances of survival is zero in the event of a crash. I have driven a normal 1.0CX Charade before. It was quite a powerful car for a 1.0L vehicle. I can't imagine a heavily modified GTTi. i used to drive a stock charade but it can't tahan long-distance driving. drove to kl got to hv 1hr pit-stop after every 3hrs of driving. plus cannot switch on aircon. YellowFlash Clutched May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 probably cuz if u look at the figures its a 1.3L tc 135hp vs a 1L tc 101hp...the gtti is probably slightly lighter than the starlet gt..
Whyeme Clutched May 18, 2008 Author Share May 18, 2008 some nice gtti pics
Perseus76 2nd Gear May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 are u sure it loses steam above 120kmh? or just that it is not too safe to do the test drive with speed above 120kmh on the test drive route? my 1L starlet with old carb engine, probably will lose steam above 120kmh...but still i can carry 4 pax on NSH and drive max it to 140kmh....with enough 'ease'... Zcold 2nd Gear May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 im saying most jap cars have short ratios, gear 2 hitting 100km is normal but i havent seen any jap cars hitting 100km/hr in gear 1 bro... perhaps to clear the air... older cars (even japanese ones) have long gear ratio... it was like 4 gears = normal; 5 gears = sports car... translating to present day 5 gears = normal; 6 gear = sports car.... e.g. the BNR32 skyline GTR and rx7 FD and FCs had 5 gears as well... thus pullin 100km/h in old cars in 1st gear might be possible i guess... Albeniz Turbocharged May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 Looks-wise, I prefer the Charade over Starlet. But there aren't many Charades around nowadays. I scraped mine at the end of its 10th year. Had quite a bit of problem.
Takumi Neutral Newbie May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 Just to clear the myth..use to own 1 more than 3yrs back... Weight: around 800kg...mine w/o spare tyre 1st gear: 45km 2nd gear: 90km 3rd gear: 130km Have tried around 205km at NSH....back than was using ball bearing turbo...engine stock In sg road a force to be reckon due to its size...mine only with slight mob...0-100km in around 7.5s..stock is 8s flat. However, back than..have friend..heavily mob..can do 0-100km in less than 6s..with top speed of close to 240km at NSH. Give up due very difficult to get spare parts..cheers!! YellowFlash Clutched May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 lol....very far off from wat perseus said....100km/hr at 1st gear vs 45km/hr at 1st gear.
YellowFlash Clutched May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 perhaps you are right saying they might have a longer gear ratio but then the topspeed made for those cars were also much lower as compared to cars nowadays. if a 100hp gtti was strap with a gear ratio this wide, it'll probably take more than 12s to hit 100km/hr... YellowFlash Clutched May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 anyway 205km for a 1L is really impressive....other than being fast on the straight, hows the handling of the car?
Takumi Neutral Newbie May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 hmm..i'm not saying it is not possible..there is one in Malaysia ...1st gear more than 100km...but definately not using the puny stock 998cc 3 cyl engine..cheers!!!
Takumi Neutral Newbie May 18, 2008 Share May 18, 2008 although my engine is stock...but my car chasis is heavily strenghten...with customise x-beam bar...very hash ride...but no problem to tail base rex at corner.... ↡ Advertisement
