Multiple people have been shot in a Brooklyn subway station and several undetonated devices were also found at the location, according to fire officials and law enforcement sources. They stress the investigation is preliminary.

The extent of the victims' injuries wasn't clear.

The FDNY says it responded to a call for smoke at the 36th Street and Fourth Avenue station, which serves the D, N and R lines in Sunset Park around 8:30 a.m. and found multiple gunshot victims. No details were immediately available on the devices.

Information on a possible suspect also wasn't immediately known.

Several law enforcement sources say a man possibly dressed in clothing that resembles those worn by MTA workers threw some sort of device and opened fire.

Some of the wounded jumped on another train to flee to the next station, the sources said.

It is at a station under their Chinatown. That's why see so many Asians or Chinese.

What are the chances the shooter is white and this is a racist attack?

There are explosives found.

Yes, this.

It is not good to speculate. But past anti-Asian attacks have also come from African Americans.

It is a fallacy to expect minorities to be more "welcoming" or "understanding" based on some vague assumption of shared hardship. If anything, it has been my experience that an established minority group will resent the incursion of another *more* than a majority group. For example, lots of racism against Asians from Aussie Aboriginal populations. The underlying causes could be related to the perception of their already small share of the "pie" being further eaten into, and a deep-seated sense of insecurity/inferiority that may lead to an irrational need to virtue-signal their belonging to a country by enthusiastically participating in bigoted displays against newer imports.

We actually see the latter phenomenon in Singapore, where Singaporean Indians (especially those born here) are often very vocally discriminatory toward "CECAs" (the derogatory vernacular in common use).

Don't agree.

Those FW are by and large not resented by those who work with them. I actually find them some of nicest people to work with.

CECAs are different. Perception is Huge chip on the shoulder ... arrogant and look down on people of "lower social order". And I have indeed met some.  Our local Indian bros may have felt even more of their "superiority" treatment when they try to bring their less desirable social practices here.

We can't generalise, but what you say may be true for some imports. It still doesn't excuse retributory bigotry.
