Panerai

Panarai watches have some issues... Many of the watches used movements from other watches, and only the higher end ones use the Panarai in-house movements.

In terms of watches with good movement and are still reasonably affordable [laugh]

I look at IWC and Frank Muller. You can get some very good deals. If you like, I could give you the contacts to my watch dealer.

I'm also targeting at the IWC Pilot Chrono. :)

Love the big Pilot, but cannot afford + I'm not willing to pay so much more for it.

The inhouse panerai movement isn't really tt gd le.. I think most panerai uses ETA movement, but they are fairly accurate(its high end ETA movement, can't go wrong anyway).

Oh the sad part, I might not be able to get my Panerai as the stock is an issue now. I'm late in calling him. =

hehe nice choice, the Pilot series are beautiful [:)]

Honestly when you go for mechanical watches, its more for the movement than accuracy. Nothing beats a quartz watch at accuracy [:p]

If you like, can look at the IWC Portofino, its not bad too and reasonably affordable too.

Naz, I am not some expert but trust me, the only watch that doesnt depreciate too much with time is Rolex, some of the older ones do make some money! I guess the main reason being that it's easier to let go & there's always a demand.Just look at brands like TAG & Omega, very expenisve to buy brand new but rather cheap when you sell...unless it's a WW2 model or something.

BTW, I have seen some ppl wearing fake Panerai!! So it depends what you want with that watch, to look pretty or just pure investment. However, I have to say that once the watch is out of the shop, the loss could be as high as 40% ...no matter what brand, maybe lesser for Rolex.

I am not a fan of Rolex & prefer Breitlings or Longines anytime. Just my 2ct worth.

panerais are able to hold their values as well as rolexes. [sly]

2nd your comments. over rated watch, just good marketing.... ex-US president Clinton wore one...hence using it as selling point. Mostly ETA movements... except recently..some inhouse! go check out Seiko Spring Drive GMT or Master Marine 600m........it's price is comparable to Rolex or Omega............

I like Citizen's eco-drive.

its so cool!

but... the designs are fugly i feel..

the technology sounds cool, more so than seiko's kinetic.

But the citizen design, imho, cannot make it. sibei (aka very) orbiang (aka fugly). I would love to own one if not for the fugly design. I used to have a Citizen watch when I was in pri school.

My first watch is actually a Titoni (if anyone can remember this brand) which was purchased in the 1930s. Not sure where I have dumped it though.

Edit: Ok, I take back my words on the fugly citizen. Went to the website and took a look. Most can pass test though not my taste. But the ones sold locally look fugly though.

For years Citizen was ape-ing Seiko. Wanting to be Seiko. Now they want to be Citizen. That is why the watches look fugly. They just got sick and tired of being somebody else. Since you went over to their webby and seen the new stuff, it is obvious they want to be Citizen. Doesn't happen overnight when you got an independant team of designers.

Is Chopard Mille Miglia 16/8920b or 16/8992 worth to get or not?

Or buy preowned pieces better ?

I only have this to say. You should buy a watch that you like, fit your lifestyle and you can comfortably afford it. Because at the end of the day, you will be the one looking at it most of the time. If it is inaccurate, you will be the one that is late. Only you know whether you require a watch that is water resistant to 300m or do you require a watch that is accurate to within 5 seconds in a year. Looks are very subjective, what is nice looking to A may not be nice looking to B. A expensive watch may not tell time better than a cheap quartz watch.

There is no point buying a watch for safekeeping in a safe. There are better investments to be made. You will only understand this if you ever try to sell your watch secondhand, asking prices on the net are misleading as they are just asking prices. A sale is done only when the asking price meet the buying price. Auction prices are even more misleading, top SWISS watch manufacturers (Patek Phillipe started doing it first, followed by other watch makers such as OMEGA) bid in their own auctions on their own watches to drive up the prices. By doing so, it creates a false impression that the watches are collector items with excellent resale value etc. Doing so certainly will boost the sale prices of the current offers. Please read the following. In conclusion, you should only buy a watch that you like, suitable for your needs and one that you can afford.
