Turboducky Neutral Newbie October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 I'm looking at the marina range. My friends who collect watches told me its not really worth the money, the only advantage is its quite limited in Sg, they controlled the quantity well so the price is quite fix due to demand. However, spending 7-9k on this watch seems pretty high right? I could get a rolex submariner at this price! Shrugs, would u get a rolex or panerai? PS: This picture is not the exact of what I want. :) Naz, I am not some expert but trust me, the only watch that doesnt depreciate too much with time is Rolex, some of the older ones do make some money! I guess the main reason being that it's easier to let go & there's always a demand.Just look at brands like TAG & Omega, very expenisve to buy brand new but rather cheap when you sell...unless it's a WW2 model or something. BTW, I have seen some ppl wearing fake Panerai!! So it depends what you want with that watch, to look pretty or just pure investment. However, I have to say that once the watch is out of the shop, the loss could be as high as 40% ...no matter what brand, maybe lesser for Rolex. I am not a fan of Rolex & prefer Breitlings or Longines anytime. Just my 2ct worth. ↡ Advertisement

Unltd 5th Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 For Breitlings they have a double sided anti glare coating on the sapphire glass, this is usually not copied. Also depends on which model he bought, the less sophisticated ones are easily copied even the movements.... Sadly, when you buy stuff nowadays you have to watch out. China has got many good fakes. The best China fakes are Rolexes! You can hardly tell a real and fake Rolex apart! Mine is a Breitling Skyracer, I think there is no good and proper replica or fake.... At this moment... But sure as hell in a few months or years, there are bound to be!
Unltd 5th Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 How come yours don't have anti reflective coating? I see wrongly? Or scratched off due to wear and tear?

Genie47 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 To spot a replica, you have to at least have a replica for a few days to examine the differences.
Modykoh 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 as told by the shop, they only managed to so called 'confirm of fake' after open the cover. it so real to be fake or so fake as real. my friend sianz 1/2...he did not tell me how much he paid... Genie47 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 Read Replica Watch Reports. They provide autopsy. In general, do not pay more than USD160 for any replica. The well-made ones are really well-made but do not command the price of the real ones. Also, because they provide autopsy, you also know what is a well-made replica. Schneider79 Clutched October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 USD160 ??? Crazy. I'll get a Casio baby G on my wrist.
Modykoh 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 USD160 is only the touch base level. more 'high end' replica even much much higher...
Modykoh 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 I read from internet...those material used are almost the same as real...even the weight is as per spec. impressive sia.. he(friend) is alredy whining on the wounds.....
Genie47 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 Not so simple. Replica got grades. The most well-made ones are from Japan believe or not. Low grade ones are from China. Don't pay more than SGD30 for these.
Genie47 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 These well-made replicas use a lot of good movements. There are even "Swiss made" replicas. Never seen one but I've seen the Japanese ones in Bangkok.
Modykoh 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 sometime i a bit puzzle..since they use almost the same good materials. they (replica) should infact come out their own brand..maybe mod the design a bit..
Unltd 5th Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 In branding, u need alot of marketing effort la. It is not easy to do the marketing, also u need to establish some special things like the first to be waterproof, the first watch on the moon, the first watch for pilots. When Omega is the first on the moon, you cannot just come up with another brand and claim that status right? Rolex has many firsts, there is the appeal that you are kinda wearing history or rather you are associated (because you own) something with a rich history. How do you think artwork is sold? Is it materially worth the millions people pay for it? There is always some very beautiful and mystical story or appeal ma..... So if the replica can brand themslfs and then make a fantastic story.... They would have done it, but do they want to waste the effort and risk their money? I think not... Modykoh 1st Gear October 14, 2008 Share October 14, 2008 that something to work out.. they do replica and fear being busted by police. they need to do aot of marketing to establish the brand. ↡ Advertisement
