Bro...wat does the pre-boot authentication encryption does? Does it mean that if someone got hold of a PC with this feature and tries to recover data from its predecessor who'd used it before him, he can't recover if he doesn't have the password for it?

The reason why I'm asking is bcos some banks leased PCs from computer company rather than buying them. But each PC comes with a pre-boot authentication due to bank's IT security policy.

But after 4 yrs...the lease is up and the PCs have to be returned to the PC company. The bank's IT dept. will use a special software to "clear" all the info. b4 returning to the company.

So...will the PC company be able to retrieve any Private and Confi trade secrets from those PCs with encryption authentication plus a "cleared" HDD???

Thanks...
