Today's Life section mentioned that this new car will be available from end Sept 2008. Price at S$85.8k.

This is basically to replace the out going Golf 1.6FSI.

This car is also the 1st car to have this new 7 Speed DSG new gear box with dry clutch.

It can cruise at 90km/h at 1800 RPM....seems good [thumbsup]

What do you guys think? Do we need 7 speed in Singapore?

Just note, this model is only one turbo charge, no super charge as christopher wrote.

Wrong detail in the write up.

is this running on the same engine as the Golf GT but down-tuned to 122bhp?

7 speed is good for cruising.. but i think it will feel like a CVT if it is close-ratio.. [rolleyes]

Surely he should have noticed that there's no supercharger whine. I drove the Golf GT before and you can definitely hear the supercharger when moving off from idle.

Kind of disappointed with him. He is kind of veteran to auto review.

Not sure if he actually ride the car or he just write for article.

The new 7sp DSG is not totally dry. It just uses significantly less oil dan the 6 sp and it weighs less. But it has a torque handling limit which I think has modding limitations.

I guess dry here means that it is no longer soaked in oil bath Expected to have better fuel efficiency since since "no oil drag" but you get less maximum torque handling which makes it not usable in higher torque VW like current GTs, GTIs etc.

Definitely. a detuned GT with one supercharger less but run on 7-speed DSG. i think its not important whether it feels like cvt or not, the gist is that with 1.4 turbo and 7-speed DSG, it balanced the performance with FC with the low road tax and german quality.... at this price for a hatch that most hatches benchmarked at, its a car to have if u r shopping for a hatch at low capacity with good performance and fc. However, this is one last installment of mk 5 and i guess u will see mk 6 in a reasonably short while, well, worth or not, very much personal pref. one thing i don't really like is that it lacks a nice body kit to go with.

9.4 sec? To be honest, sounds like it could do faster, judging from sitting in the car (we haven't actually driven +g-teched it yet though, so i reserve my comments..haha)
