Qpik Supercharged September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 AT. CVT lubber effect or maybe i tried on a cheepo jippun chia or i'm sceptical abt this technology but the best gearbox is still MANUAL. nothing beats a MANUAL. driving a auto is like playg masak masak. i am driving a masak chia cos it doesn't come in manual and conversion of auto gearbox to manual gearbox is not legit in s'pore. ↡ Advertisement

Garlic 1st Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 (edited) Interesting, found this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuously_...le_transmission CVTs operate smoothly. This can give a perception of low power, because many drivers expect a jerk when they begin to move the vehicle. However, the expected jerk of a CVT can be emulated by CVT control software, thus eliminating this marketing problem. Garlic 1st Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 Main advantage of DSG is instantaneous shifting with minimal losses?
Ewicong Neutral Newbie September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 guys, nowaday world gg to dual clutch which is twin clutch.... less fuel consumption n more importantly faster than manual gear..... from howstuffworks Most people know that cars come with two basic transmission types: manuals, which require that the driver change gears by depressing a clutch pedal and using a stick shift, and automatics, which do all of the shifting work for drivers using clutches, a torque converter and sets of planetary gears. But there's also something in between that offers the best of both worlds -- the dual-clutch transmission, also called the semi-automatic transmission, the "clutchless" manual transmission and the automated manual transmission. A dual-clutch transmission offers the function of two manual gearboxes in one. To understand what this means, it's helpful to review how a conventional manual gearbox works. When a driver wants to change from one gear to another in a standard stick-shift car, he first presses down the clutch pedal. This operates a single clutch, which disconnects the engine from the gearbox and interrupts power flow to the transmission. Then the driver uses the stick shift to select a new gear, a process that involves moving a toothed collar from one gear wheel to another gear wheel of a different size. Devices called synchronizers match the gears before they are engaged to prevent grinding. Once the new gear is engaged, the driver releases the clutch pedal, which re-connects the engine to the gearbox and transmits power to the wheels. Tanjkp Clutched September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 The crap I prefer now is CVT as it can run as low as 1K RPM w/o vibration and still can accelerate. The crap enable it to achieve close to 14KPL even run on neighbouhood roads on 1.5L.
Ewicong Neutral Newbie September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 from wikipedia... As of late 2007, DCTs are sold mostly by Volkswagen Group under the brand names DSG Direct-Shift Gearbox (for Volkswagen, SEAT,
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 yup! i love the ease of a fully autobox, plus the choice of manual shifting, plus low transmission losses, it's like all the good stuff of a manual and auto in one! by the time u clutch in, the DSG would have already engaged its next gear... but....dunno what its like to replace one tho...maybe it'll cost the total of a manual and autobox also??? hahahah
Sony 1st Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 Yup. their CVT actually allow you to feel the change instead of the usual 'lifeless' CVT. and the forever whining sound that come with it
Tanjkp Clutched September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 and the forever whining sound that come with it U were runnig on the earlier CVT ? None of the earelier posts commented on that. Note : I experienced the whine during the EK CVT -- wow the reverse whine was like SCREAM !
Sony 1st Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 nope.. i have never own a CVT before.. the test drive was enough to ask me go for others.. but I don't think it's earlier CVT coz when I tried the nissan selphy earlier this year, it's still the same, just that it's more gently but still a sissy
Hermit 1st Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 The newer CVT gearbox makes the engine function at the best torque/power point.Naturally it will be more fuel efficient compared to old gearbox where the butterfly throttle will allow too much fuel into engine when you step on the accelerator. I prefer AT, because I like the feel of the 'kick' when ever I pin down the accelerator. Don't talk c**k lah. The real kick only come in 'Manual' gear. But the super real kick comes in the left leg when stuck in a jam. Always found my left more developed than my right, so switched to auto tranny
Typhoonz 4th Gear September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 I think regardless of the type of gearboxes or how advance they are, ultimately it depends more on our driving style and the "weight" of our foot on the accelerator...

Tanjkp Clutched September 10, 2008 Share September 10, 2008 Maybe try the Toyota one. Seems quiet enough. But most petrol driven CVT are from PI mostly not offering test drive. BTW, I couldn't recall the whine when tested the Sylphy in 2007. Maybe didn't pushed hard enough. The whine from the prev EK also intrude during high speed accer above 3K rpm. Understand the Honda Hybrid still whine slightly.
