Ev0lutionz Clutched September 18, 2008 Share September 18, 2008 If my friend rent a car from a legal company, am i allowed to drive it? If got stopped by TP, show him licence and say its a borrowed car? ↡ Advertisement
macrosszero Turbocharged September 18, 2008 Share September 18, 2008 TP won't care so much. Unless the car has been reported as a stolen car. The car rental company WILL care if you have an accident in the rental car and you are not named in the rental agreement as an authorized driver. Often, they have a clause that states that they have the right to withdraw insurance coverage if an unauthorized driver is driving the vehicle when it gets into an accident (regardless of who is at fault). If you want to drive, it is best to declare yourself as a driver.
Ev0lutionz Clutched September 18, 2008 Author Share September 18, 2008 So bottom line, dont get into accident? Why is the insurance policy so different with bikes?
macrosszero Turbocharged September 18, 2008 Share September 18, 2008 No such thing as don't get into accident. Accident cannot be foreseen. You can be sitting stationary waiting for the lights to turn green and someone could just run up the back of your car. How can you avoid something like that? If you want to try your luck, be prepared to have a big stack of money if things go bad, because you're going to need it.
Ev0lutionz Clutched September 18, 2008 Author Share September 18, 2008 Oh i see... But then if i drive with my friend's permission, i wont get into any problems with the TP right?
macrosszero Turbocharged September 18, 2008 Share September 18, 2008 If you are stopped by TP, as long as you have a valid driver's licence, show your P plate if you are required to, and the vehicle you are driving hasn't been reported stolen, you should be ok. With the car rental company, it depends on the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. If it clearly states that only the named driver(s) are authorized to drive the car, then you should not try your luck. If you get into trouble, you will get your friend into trouble as well.
