  2. Men don't have sex, be careful Expert warning : Double the risk of death
  3. Hi, Just saw a ticket in my car wiper today, ticket for parking at double yellow line issued by cisco police. My fault clearly. Do you know what is the penalty (how much) for this offence? I believe no demerit for this. Anyone know a link where all these are described officially? Thanks.
  4. Need a new chair for your home office but don't want a Secret Lab chair like most people do? Check out this very familiar-looking chair that you can now buy at a starting price of $100. Thanks to a local company that specialises in scrapping vehicles, you can now own a part of our public buses that have been prowling our roads for the last 10 or more years. The company, Kim Li Huat, posted this simple and sleek Volvo B9TL CDGE chair that has been blessed with a new base on their company's facebook page, saying that if you wish to buy in bulk, the price even can be lowered. For those who wonder where these seats came from, a quick search on the web showed that these Volvo buses have been plying on our roads for about 15 years (out of their 17-year statutory lifespan) and had their interior refreshed less than 3 years ago before they were taken out of service. Credits to landtransportguru for the info and photos.
  5. Anyone know where to get the double sided tape for door visor? - must not damage car paint - narrow type, half the width of standard masking and scotch tape.
  6. Posted by the people of SG Road Vigilante are photos of some bikes parked along the pavement of Ang Mo Kio Ave 9, near the Yio Chu Kang Sport Complex. The photos, which showed quite a few bikes on the pavement, were taken on the 20th of July and captured the bikes all parked neatly on the side of the pavement. Despite the many available parking lots in the carpark which the bikes were already in, the owners of the bikes were said to have parked it on the pavement instead as they wanted their bikes to be in the shade. A quick glance at the comments saw many netizens flaming and taunting SG Road Vigilante as the bikes parked there actually belonged to police officers who worked at the nearby AMK police HQ. Interestingly, SG Road Vigilante retaliated and filed a complaint with the OneService platform. We hope they update everyone on whether these bike owners will get any form of punishment...
  7. Since can't find any code online, not even SPF website, perhaps anyone here know this ruling. Though I SHOULD know it, but I guess many drivers is same as me 1. Single yellow zig zag line on road side 2. double yellow zig zag line on road side
  8. quoted from https://www.mof.gov.sg/Newsroom/Parliamentary-Replies/Singapore-Road-Tax-Structure 1. Road Tax - which are based on engine capacity - are higher for, bigger cars, which tend to consume more fuel and produce more emissions than small cars quoted from https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/roads-and-motoring/owning-a-vehicle/costs-of-owning-a-vehicle/tax-structure-for-cars.html 2. VES - The VES takes into consideration a vehicle’s emissions of four other pollutants, namely hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOX) and particulate matter (PM), in addition to the vehicle’s carbon dioxide emission, to encourage consumers to shift to less pollutive models. Cars registered from 1 January 2018 to 30 June 2018 (both dates inclusive) will be assessed based on their emissions of four pollutants of HC, CO, NOX and CO2 (i.e. PM emissions is exempted during this interim period). Cars1 registered from 1 July 2018 to 31 December 2019 (both dates inclusive) will be assessed based on their emissions of five pollutants of HC, CO, NOx, PM and CO2. The VES rebate or surcharge will be determined by the worst performing pollutant. Aren't both taxes the same since both are taxed the emission from the car.

  11. I was browsing thru sgcarmart and saw this ad on a used Hilux double cab pickup. The dep is whopping 10K/yr which is higher than big sedan like Camry and Accord. What is so special about this pickup truck that can command such a high resale? Bcos it is rare? This amount of dep can buy sport sedan like Euro R. Can this pickup run faster than a Euro R? Ridiculous pricing. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...238&DL=2047
  12. Just a nob question, shall we apply and stick all the car body protection such as bumper guard/car body guard and Visio etc before sending for car coating or the other way round? The concerning is whether the 3M double sided tape will stick well on the coated paint such as ceramic type. Anyone can share this info?
  13. SMRT has confirmed an order of 570 new buses, which includes 332 MAN 12-metre buses, 40 MAN articulated buses, and a total of 201 Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 double deckers. This the new livery of SMRT ADL double deckers to be launched soon As part of the initiative to increase bus capacity on longer routes and bring greater comfort to the commuter’s bus journey experience, SMRT has confirmed the delivery of over 570 buses. Orders are confirmed for 332 MAN 12-metre buses, 40 MAN articulated buses, and for the first time, a total of 201 ADL Double Deckers. This is the largest fleet renewal and growth initiative by SMRT to date, and re-affirms the company’s commitment to offering commuters the highest standards in safety, reliability, care and comfort. A first batch of about 30 buses will be delivered to SMRT’s bus depots in June 2014. The vehicles will undergo further tests including functional, systems and road tests before joining SMRT’s existing fleet of over 1,200 buses to serve commuters from July 2014. SMRT Buses will be introducing the rest of the fleet progressively till end 2016. The addition of the ADL Double Deckers in particular will help ease crowdedness during peak hours, particularly on longer routes with high passenger loads. Together with other bus orders, these new vehicles will replace older bus models, and address the need for more bus trips and better bus service levels. Mr. Benny Lim, Senior Vice President for SMRT Roads said, “We are very excited with this major fleet expansion and renewal initiative. Expanding our existing fleet with ADL Double Deckers and MAN buses will enable us to better address increasingly dynamic road conditions, and ensure enhanced capacity in handling increased ridership. We look forward to bringing passengers even more comfortable and reliable rides.” Of the over 570 buses that SMRT has confirmed delivery for, 218 are introduced and funded under SMRT’s participation in the Land Transport Authority’s Bus Service Enhancement Programme. http://www.mynewsdesk.com/sg/smrt/pressreleases/smrt-buses-enhances-strategy-for-fleet-growth-and-renewal-double-deckers-among-confirmed-delivery-of-over-570-buses-979666

  20. What happened to angmoh standard of Human Rights? Britain's MI6 aided torture of Nepal Maoists, book claims British authorities funded a four-year-long intelligence operation in Nepal that led to Maoist rebels being arrested, tortured and killed during the country's civil war, according to the author of a new book on Kathmandu. Launched in 2002, "Operation Mustang" targeted Maoist guerillas and saw British intelligence agency MI6 fund safe houses and provide training in surveillance and counter-insurgency tactics to Nepal's army and spy agency, the National Investigation Department (NID), writer Thomas Bell told AFP Saturday. Nepal's decade-long civil war left more than 16,000 dead, with rebels and security forces accused of serious human rights violations including killings, rapes, torture and disappearances. "According to senior Nepalese intelligence and army officials involved in the operation, British aid greatly strengthened their performance and led to about 100 arrests," said Bell, whose book "Kathmandu" hits stores in South Asia on Thursday. "It's difficult to put an exact number on it, but certainly some of those who were arrested were tortured and disappeared," he said. Maoist commander Sadhuram Devkota, known by his nom-de-guerre "Prashant", was among those captured during "Operation Mustang" in November 2004. Six weeks later, he was found hanging from a low window in his cell, with officials saying he had committed suicide. Despite protests, no independent investigation was ever carried out. British authorities helped construct a bug-proof building in the NID headquarters, created a secure radio network for communications and supplied everything from cameras to computers to mobile phones and night vision binoculars, according to Bell's sources in the Nepalese security establishment. "The agency also sent a small number of British officers to Nepal, around four or five -- some tied to the embassy, others operating separately," Bell said. The officers gave the Nepalese training in how to place bugs, how to penetrate rebel networks and how to groom informers. - 'They knew what was happening' - Bell spent about a year interviewing some 20 highly-placed sources to corroborate the details of the operation, and said a senior western official told him the operation was cleared by Britain's Foreign Office. A Foreign Office spokeswoman told AFP: "We do not comment on intelligence matters but, as we have repeatedly made clear, the UK does not participate in, solicit, encourage or condone the use of torture or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment. "In no circumstances will UK personnel ever be authorised to take such action; we neither condone such activity, nor do we ask others to do it on our behalf. "We would never authorise any action in the knowledge or belief that torture would take place at the hands of a third party." A Nepalese general with close knowledge of the operation told the writer there was no doubt that British authorities realised that some of the arrested suspects would be tortured and killed. "Being British they must have thought about human rights also, but they knew exactly what was happening to them," the general said. "The thing must have been approved at a high level." Bell said it was "a peculiar contradiction that while calling for an end to abuses... the British were secretly giving very significant help in arresting targets whom they knew were very likely to be tortured". The British-born writer covered Nepal's civil war from 2002 to 2007, reporting for The Economist and the South China Morning Post before moving to Bangkok for a two-year stint as The Daily Telegraph's Southeast Asia correspondent. Tejshree Thapa, senior researcher at the Asia division of Human Rights Watch, said: "Nepal's army was known by 2002 to be an abusive force, responsible for... summary executions, torture, custodial detentions". "To support such an army is tantamount to entrenching and encouraging abuse and impunity," Thapa told AFP. Nepal army spokesman Jagdish Chandra Pokharel denied all knowledge of the operation, which apparently continued even after a coup in February 2005 by the then-king Gyanendra seizing direct control prompted the British to publicly suspend all military aid to the country. "I have no idea about MI6 training the Nepal army or any Operation Mustang," Pokharel told AFP. Nepal is in the process of drafting a new constitution, a key step in a stalled peace process begun after the end of the civil war in 2006. http://news.yahoo.com/britains-mi6-aided-torture-nepal-maoists-book-claims-025143311.html

  25. http://sg.entertainment.yahoo.com/news/ang...-050549464.html Angelina Jolie revealed Tuesday that she has undergone a preventive double mastectomy because she had a very high risk of breast cancer. The 37-year-old American actress wrote in an opinion piece entitled "My Medical Choice" in The New York Times that she had chosen the procedure because she carries a faulty gene that increases her risk of both breast and ovarian cancer. Jolie, one of Hollywood's best-known faces and the partner of actor Brad Pitt, said that because of this gene, known as BRCA1, her doctors estimated she had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. Her mother died of cancer at the age of 56, she said. "Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy," she wrote. "I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex," Jolie wrote. She said that on April 27 she completed the three months of medical procedures that the mastectomies involved. Jolie said her chances of developing breast cancer are now down to five percent. Jolie and Pitt have three adopted and three biological children. "I can tell my children they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer," Jolie said. Very strong character!
