Silver_blade Turbocharged October 2, 2008 Share October 2, 2008 (edited) I would have the compressor oil replaced...same logic as replacing engine oil. Lubrication oil will thin-out over time and have to be replaced. Why wait for the compressor to breakdown? Will you do the same for engine and gearbox.....nothing wrong, don't do anything to it? I really don't understand the double standard many treat their engine and the aircon compressor. Edited October 2, 2008 by Silver_blade

Jpquek Clutched October 2, 2008 Share October 2, 2008 Ya ! Totally agree .....u need to change the oil....but at the same time ...u also need to do up the flushing of the system .The reason for flushing the A/C system is to remove oil and contamination (metal chips) which might prematurely spoils your compressor. Somemore a new compressor is not cheap....esp for conti.

Genie47 1st Gear October 2, 2008 Share October 2, 2008 HVAC system should only be serviced by AC technicians. Don't go to a general car workshop to do it. They recommend this and that and then outsource it to an AC tech that is servicing several car workshops. If you want real AC advice for your HVAC, see a specialized AC workshop. Genie47 1st Gear October 2, 2008 Share October 2, 2008 Mark Cool definitely can and so is Precision Engineering which is recommended by Apollo. All the mechanics and workshops recommend this and that want sales. There was a time I went to Mark Cool and they told me not to service when nothing is wrong. Compressors aren't cheap but a car's HVAC is pretty much self contained. About the compressor's oil, it is just the same as your manual gearbox oil. It doesn't face combustion products, it is completely sealed and most of them last for bizillion miles. You only need to check the level. Top up when needed. Not change it. Elfenstar 3rd Gear October 2, 2008 Share October 2, 2008 This is the recommendation from my a/c specialist in Melb "Servicing of a vehicle air conditioner is recommended every 12 months. This is due to the fact that most systems will lose gas slowly through hoses, O/rings and spinning shaft seal etc. Moisture can also be absorbed through hoses and gas loss and filters can block with debris. An air conditioning service involves connecting service gauges and running air conditioning to check pressure, system performance, etc. Degassing and evacuating system if required and regassing to correct gas level. We also check hoses for possible wear or leakage, belt tension, condition of compressor. Condenser filter etc. and overall performance. Then the system is fully leak tested and service sticker is applied indicating gas type, oil type and service filter due dates."
