Achtung 6th Gear November 30, 2008 Author Share November 30, 2008 Yeah it flickered...... Did the HID bulb flicker at all? ↡ Advertisement
Achtung 6th Gear November 30, 2008 Author Share November 30, 2008 Thanks for the explanation to the dude who asked..... It looks weird for me... to have yellow and white headlights.... 8000K doesn't necessarily have to be brighter. It's just the colour difference. Slayer Clutched November 30, 2008 Share November 30, 2008 if u put back the old bulb, and if it still works, I would check the spec to make sure it can take the new bulb.
Watwheels Supersonic November 30, 2008 Share November 30, 2008 (edited) Found this on wiki.... End of life At the end of life, many types of high-intensity discharge lamps exhibit a phenomenon known as cycling. These lamps can be started at a relatively low voltage. As they heat up during operation, however, the internal gas pressure within the arc tube rises and a higher voltage is required to maintain the arc discharge. As a lamp gets older, the voltage necessary to maintain the arc eventually rises to exceed the voltage provided by the electrical ballast. As the lamp heats to this point, the arc fails and the lamp goes out. Eventually, with the arc extinguished, the lamp cools down again, the gas pressure in the arc tube is reduced, and the ballast can once again cause the arc to strike. The effect of this is that the lamp glows for a while and then goes out, repeatedly. More sophisticated ballast designs detect cycling and give up attempting to start the lamp after a few cycles. If power is removed and reapplied, the ballast will make a new series of startup attempts. ========================= I find these information useful as I got to learn more about HID lamps. My car also came factory fitted HID, also 4.3K.... Maybe u would like to return the bulbs to the shop and ask for refund. I always get my answers here. simi car again? anyway, i believe it's of different "pulse", thus the car system will assume it's a malfunction and do a shutdown.. car can be that complicated nowadays.. Galantspeedz Turbocharged December 1, 2008 Share December 1, 2008 My car came stock with HIDs. Th ebulbs are 4.3K and has a yellow tinge. Been wanting to change em to 8000k ones. Went to the store, slot the 8Ks in, and the bulb will be litted for a while and it shuts off. How come? Does anyone know why? if you change bulb only, then i think maybe is wattage is different. If using different brands, my advice is to change the ballast too.
High_octane 1st Gear December 1, 2008 Share December 1, 2008 (edited) His ballast is internal since it is a stock part. Could be the bulb itself is dead or wrong wattage. HID if I remember correctly comes in 35W and 55W. Another thing is bad contact. Could be not fastened properly. I also changed out my stock bulb for a 8000K one. Initially had the same issue. Flickering than cut off. Remove the bulb and fit it back resolved the issue. Edited December 1, 2008 by High_octane
