Davidklt Supercharged December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 Ford is in trouble too..so just left Citroen? Whats there left to compete?
Zcold 2nd Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 wow.. another one bites the dust... honda from f1 suzuki from wrc now subaru from wrc... who's next...
Jb15 1st Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 maybe because of the new design No offence to those who own it
Zcold 2nd Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 haha.. that's the irony of it... they designed a hatch to better compete in WRC... now they pulled out of wrc... they have to market their less appealing hatch and make-shift sedan sounds like a lose lose situation no offence to the new version owners here... jus my personal opinion... i prefer the previous sedan version... Ahbengdriver 6th Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 For while, mitsubishi wasnt doing well. noticed subaru was also doing ok vz citreon n peugeot n ford. Looks like jap car companies are slowly pulling out of competitions. Or they find it too expensive to run the motorsports divisions.
Slowmo Clutched December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 maybe, just maybe.. the trend for them is to embrace into the hybrid engine race?
Watwheels Supersonic December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 That's odd. I thought Subaru has Toyota backing? Maybe Toyota wants to focus only on F1. WRC is cheaper to run dan F1, 1/10th the cost to run compared to F1 from what I read. I'm surprised Ford is still surviving in WRC. They have more teams and cars in WRC compared to Citroen. Leepee 1st Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 (edited) So sad to read the news. Subaru = WRC....without which who will want to buy a WRX=World Rally Xhampion! Left two brands left.......to cut costs just send in a Citron brand MTX bicycle to compete, chow chow also can confirmed second place or better(if lucky)! Kelpie 2nd Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 I've watched some WRC documentary and the amount of preparation is no joke. The Subaru team has 8 tons load of parts and accessories alone and many ang mo support staff working on shift to ensure engine is up to mark. At least 6 mega sized trucks to transport the cars, the crew and etc. If you mentioned that WRC is only 1/10th of F1 cost, can't imagine how much to maintain a F1 team and crew! Kelpie 2nd Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 That's odd. I thought Subaru has Toyota backing? Maybe Toyota wants to focus only on F1. The Suzuki WRC team is being seem as a proxy for the Toyota all the this while. So you probably will not see Toyota in WRC. By the way, Toyota owns Suzuki. Ncp91 1st Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 Subaru and Mitsubishi make AWD/4WD versions of their competition WRCars. They don't win many races. Ford, Peugeot, Citroen don't make AWD/4WD versions of their competition WRCars. They win races and manufacturers' titles. But it hasn't prevented Subaru and Mitsubishi from making very good turbocharged 4WD consumer cars that are highly rated, Ford has a hot hatch Focus ST which is FWD, Citroen and Peugeot don't have anything interesting coming from their rally platform. In terms of competition benefiting the rest of the product line, seems only the Japanese manufacturers do it. The others are just there to fly the brand logo and win races. I say let the WRCar category die, go back to Group A homologated cars, keep rallying real for the public. It costs too much and doesn't benefit the consumers. Blackyv Turbocharged December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 frankly, i personally prefer to watch wrc than f1.. i dont get "high" with F1, quite boring infact but wrc does make me "high"....... maybe also due to Linkin park's "in the end" song effect.... Watwheels Supersonic December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 Yeah true. I prefer the tarmac stages in certain countries especially in France. Toughest is Rally Finland slipping and sliding in the snow. Really take skill to drive in all conditions, gravel, mud, sand(Abdu Dabi), snow, tarmac. Many stages, very challenging. For F1 the good parts are the starting and ending. Middle part I always fall asleep .
Watwheels Supersonic December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 WRC governing body has rules and budget for the teams to build their cars ie their cars is caped at 2.0L TCed with 4WD and build a car cannot exceed Euro$2million. Big teams with big budget can hire as many manpower they want. In WRC you see many privateers and private teams bcos it's one of the more affordable motorsports. Ahbengdriver 6th Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 Think afterall it makes more $ sense for AHSENGAQUARIUM to market for subaru than to spend $millions on WRC.
Pocus Turbocharged December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 Where did you get that info? I dun think Toyota and Suzuki has any relationship, in company ownership or WRC. Toyota owns Daihatsu not Suzuki. GM has a small stake in Suzuki, so that could attribute to Suzuki's redrawal.
