I would think they are being optimistic. It's very much like the weatherman trying to predict upcoming weather.

The aftermath has yet to set in as the gloom&doom is not really felt yet. Everyone is trying to say some good things to hold on to some optimism and confidence but the underlying fundamentals are rotting away. My view is that the bonus reduction and job cuts here so far is jus the beginning. The real impact will come begining Q1 2009 where insolvency and bad debts becomes more massive. Then come the next big wave of downturn and retrenchment etc... so earliest see recovery in 2010.

i guess (im not sure cos im not an economist) what they mean by 'recover' is that GDP stop contracting.

but ppl like me and you, will have another definition of recovery...

 

(well let's not get into Multiplier effects or Aggregate Demand stuff)..haha..but personally, i can only see my pay up in 1H 2010..which is quite sad....when it's already so low.. :(

This time round, the bad economy is due to fundamental problems. It takes tremendous effort to solve the problem at its roots. Recovery will not be so soon.
