Just receive my ICT notification to inform me that my ICT has been canceled!

Think they trying to save $$.

Haha i doubt the govt will endorse any military budget cutbacks. Probably the only industry that isn't affected by the economic depression.

Oh well looks like good news for you.

see point 13 in the faq link i posted earlier... only exam for part time studies is allowed.

those block-heads aren't flexible. only follow the guideline.

edit:for your convenience

Q13. What is deferment and how can I defer from my scheduled NS training?

NSmen are required to report for Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) training, as scheduled by their NS Unit. However, under certain circumstances, deferment from National Service may be granted. Deferment from NS allows NSman to postpone his NS call-up to a later date within the same workyear (1st April of the current year to 31st March of the following year), and may be considered under exceptional circumstances such as

a. On compassionate grounds, for example marriage & honeymoon, wife's delivery, next-of-kin is seriously ill, etc

b. National Representation at recognised regional and International games

c. New employment

d. Newly established business

e. Examination for part-time studies

f. Simultaneous call-up of 2 or more NSmen within the same department and who are employed in the same job capacity.

Best is they cancelled it due to economic reasons, like during the previous 2/3 economic downturns whereby some ICTs were pp or cancelled. Anyway its only for abt a week, you make it sound like ur whole future/success/progress in life hinges on this 1 week.

Well so SAF decided i shouldn't enjoy at least a year of civillian life before forcing me to wear green again.

I'm currently holding an 8-5 job with night classes every week for my bachelor's course but my ICT deferment got rejected. Is it worth appealing?

I'm sure many of you would advise me to go and not miss any of my ICT but i don't see the point of paying $19k for my studies just to skip classes (and exams) go back, slap on my medic armband and pretend that life is good while walking long distances with a backbreaking fieldpack and not to mention that darn stretcher and MOP; of which i was just doing the same thing last year.

I'm just starting out a new job and concentrating my studies and now i have to put them on hold for my active unit. As you can imagine i'm feeling a lil' frustrated after serving my mandatory 2 years in a "chiong-sua" and now my life is disrputed again.

Hope to hear any advice from you uncles and experienced personnel. I'm not looking for avenues to "chao-keng" lah, just want to know what are my options.

You have to appeal twice, ie for the 3rd letter (2nd appeal) the unit will have to forward a copy to a separate department based in Mindef. This department handles issues relating to NS (reservist) group.

Its actually our unit's 1st ICT, Low Key only around 1 week but stil its time wasted if i have to attend classes. Anyway my uni hasn't plan or block the window period for my next semester's examinations so i'm not sure how i can go about telling them the "future".

I really don't mind serving the one week cos i'd still end up serving with my mates during my NSF days (which seemd like yesterday only becuase of the time span).

Sighz..

If it's only 1 week then just go lah... at least it it with your own unit and your commanders may still be more understanding and let you have nights off to attend your classes.

If you get a deferment and they send you for make-up training with another unit, that unit's commanders mau just tekan you and may not be so understanding.

One week only what.. just suck it up and get it over and done with lah

When you're starting out something new you tend to get a little anxious and any hiccups along the way will leave you demoralized bit by bit.

I don't see why my life has to revolve around the SAF. Maybe its just my opinion.

Been watching TV or listening to local radion recently? Advertisements asking "What will you defend?". I say what's there to defend if you've got no job and no future.

Neutral Newbie

For my unit, night classes are not a strong reason for deferment. What they practice are to let these pple nights off to attend their classes.

sucks to the core, i mean who's going to be responsible if i miss my exams or some other significant date in the course of my degree.

Some part of me wished i had joined my brother and studied overseas.

Look at it this way. It's likely you join MR 2-3 years earlier than your bro. Now I assume you still don't have kids. When your bro returns and chiong sua and kids maybe 2months old at home, it's chaos.

Some of my friends actually joined MR already! I'm still halfway thru coz I was overseas for some time. Now you slog it out also better than when you gets older and most of your spare parts not functioning that well.

Just imagine running 2.4km at age 38. Fail? No problems they will keep on training you slowly. It's a torture slowly. At that time maybe your children wants you to read story books to them at night?

Get it over and done with asap.

Get it over and done with asap.

Totally agree.

TS - Get it over and done with. You drag it out, you suffer even longer. Worse if you have to do makeup training with other units and not your own.

You will emerge as a better person once you overcomes the hiccups in life. Take it as a challenge. You think your bro who went overseas to study have no challenge? I have to admit some just played all the way to graduation. But some also failed and return home feeling ashamed. Some buck up and did well.

Just don't think everyone's out to eat you. Reservist is different from NS time. They are more flexible (if you are reasonable). Just go in and talk with your superiors.

If you are company line medic, then you need to talk with your CSM / OC. Been in several in camps and I can say this is very normal. Don't go in first day and slap the MP letter on CO face and demand you walk out a free man. Every human also need dignity. If your exams are nearby, you can even ask for 1-2 days off to study at home. But if they don't approve, are you willing to study in bunk? Many of my army mates did that too.

Not sure if anyone posted already.

For studies this excuse is of lesser weight as it is night class (part time).

You can use your new job to try to defer.

Did you write in to them personally or gotten your company HR to write?

I deferred before because of new job and it was 2 mth before the start of the ICT.

Ask the HR to write a letter and i send it to them. HR stated I was on probation during ICT period and that

my staying in the company is critical to my probation period and job.

Not a valid reason for me because i'll officially be in the company for 8 months when my ICT begins. So i guess new job deferment is already rendered null.

Like i said before i don't really mind serving if it boils down to LPPL. I mean i've been through worst right with my gcc and all that.

if start new job, use the excuse that in this time, scared that if go ict the company will find reason to let go of you and get another person....a ft who is cheaper and no need ict!

Ever since I came back from studies, I have been called back. 2 times managed to siam due to operations to my knee injured during NS. Other than that, I have gone back to SLEEP for 2 weeks always. Knn. They really just want to make the headcount lorz. Nothing for me to do but dunwan to release me from reservist. [hur]

TS just go for ICT if you can... as some said early go in finish early unless you intend to downgrade till non-combat and get moved into holding unit. You are still very young so if your company gives you the blessing to go ICT then should be fine. Night classes just have to skip that week and catch up from there.

I am in 2 PDF 668SIR and I see so many lao peng in their mid and late 30s going back for first ICT... I really pity them still got to suffer till 40s which is much worse than your current predicament... >.<

2 PDF 667SIR here!! I am thinking of asking for deferment as well due to the fact I am under probation.. Problem is I am with a Govt body. Somemore this year is ATEC. And my wife has to look after the baby on her own for 2 weeks. Sianz..
