Actually reduction of road tax or abolishing it may help the car industry to a certain extent. Like what they mentioned earlier, ERP will be the one used eventually to "tax" you.

Regards,

it will help the car industry, but the revenue loss is a lot. this will result in a win-lose situation for LTA. you think they will agree?

What's wrong with those OPC owners asking for half day $10? If it happen, what's next? Ask for hourly coupons? Please do not ask for the sky. Do ya maths, if it's not worth to get $17k rebate upfront, and $800 road tax rebate annually, covert back to normal plate.

dun worry. unlikely to happen. any OPC changes will result in normal plate car owners being unhappy.

Half day coupon for S$10?

Then the OPC rebate will also drop to S$8.5K (instead of S$17K)

Why make things so messy? 1 category is more than enough

The best that they can do is give 30 mins stretch at start and stop... that is.. 7.30am till 6.30pm.. that will be good enough. These days most companies are on 5 day work week... so instead of full day Saturday... a 1pm Saturday will do...

Just dream'in... the best we can have these days..

by doing 7.30am, opc will be contributing to the morning peak jam, then it defeats the purpose of Off-Peak scheme.

Peak hours have changed, thus if there is a need to revise the Off-Peak scheme. I would think the Peak hours for weekdays should be longer, start earlier and end later. Only then should Sat be revised to Off-Peak. Being fair about the issue of Off-Peak is key. If they allow Off-Peak to start later on weekdays and end earlier, the jams would be far worse than what we currently face. This only contributes to jams and more jams during morning rush hour and evening peak hours.

This reminds me on how I was caught in a traffic one evening along PIE from Adam Road to Tampines... I've been transitting from Tampines to Woodlands in the morning and W'land to Tampines in the evening. Always cruising at 90km/h... never been to crawling traffic. Yeap.. there's really a lot of cars these days on the road...

I was just thinking that, if it's stretch to 7.30am, then I can use my OPC car to send the children in the morning and be back by 7.15am.. and then pick up the wife from school in the evening at 6.45pm. Normal car use for work...

Well.. ok, seems like did not see the big picture.. then I agreed.. make it 6am till 8pm... BUT Saturday declared as off-peak day!.. So my normal car can rest on the weekends..

Changing dreams ... another thing that can be had for free...

I think slide the timing to between 7:30 am to 7:30 pm will reduce the jam...

every morning when I drive to work before 7, it's jammed due to school bus and parents faring kids to school. Knock off at 7 pm, if drive off at exactly 7 pm also, PIE, CTE, KPE jam like hell. Usually if I drive off at 7:30 pm, the jam is much lesser.

haha. this is a good one. you think you know something that the gov don't already know

Half day coupon good idea? Not for LTA.

Go to work at 9am. Pay $10. Leave at 7pm. No need to pay. You just halved your cost. You think LTA doesn't know?

LTA has slowly reduced ARF and road tax in the past few years. Plus the lower COE, there's fewer and fewer reasons to choose OPC cars now.

yes yes everything that u've written makes absolute sense, but only for yourself.

the bigger picture is about the whole motorist community.

if they declare saturday off peak... then motorists who use the east coast parks etc in the morning will have to compete with u for lots.

they complain and the cycle repeats. what about the motorists who go for morning breakfast at popular food centres like bedok interchange?

they'll detest seeing more OPC in the carpark, competing with them for lots. How is LTA goign to convince them when they don't enjoy the same 17k rebate?

so LTA will sure think, why change a system which everyone is used to?

but yep, i understand that dreaming is free.

personally for me, i don't understand why buy OPC when u can buy a much smaller 2nd hand car.

there are people who really need OPC, but most OPC people don't need.

for instance, why choose vios OPC when the amount can buy a new picanto? road tax of picanto is surely manageable at $400.

its only the subtle differences like boot space etc, but how many of us need the boot space on a daily basis?

if u talk about engine performance and branding, then i rest my case.
