Zaini1 1st Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 yes, the size is odd in singapore. to remain the same diameter of the current wheel size with wider tires, we need get 215/55/R16 tyres. there are a lot option out there. I looking at GR 100 http://www.bridgestone.com.sg/product_gr100.html looking at the wheel arc of our car, it should fit in without any issue. but the price is... i did search on web, seems like hankook and Kumho have 215/55/R16 tyres too. How much were you quoted for the price of the GR100? ↡ Advertisement
Columbian78 6th Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 I am using 215/50/17 gr100 on mine. Rims are 17/6.5. These are not sporty tyres but very well balanced comfort tyres.
Devilcup 3rd Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 (edited) I also realized that the tires they gave is of an odd size. Can we fit 205/55/16r (same as civic) ? 215 width will be too wide? very scared affect fuel consumption. but then, i think it will quite long before i even have to worry about tires replacement. 1 set can go 50k to 60k? i only travel ~20k per yr. So probably need replace them in 2yr plus time. my experience with wider tires is there are not much difference in FC. the thing why i prefer 215/55/R16 is due to the fact it can match back the same size of our currently wheel set. if you use 205/55/R16 the wheel size will be smaller by ard 2-3%. so your speedo meter will show u are driving faster. meaning if ur meter is 90km/hr, maybe ur actual speed is 80 plus a bit. Currently my meter is faster by 5km/hr @ 90km/hr. other than that, there are no issue to use 205 profile tires. my preference of tires change is every 2yr. no care about mileage as i travel 20k plus a yr max. unless some problem with the tires itself. How much were you quoted for the price of the GR100? not buying so not ask for quote. but official retail price a piece is ard $ 216.00 in the website... Robtan99 1st Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 You changed all 4 in a shot? Cannot mix with current one right? Sorry for asking noob question because still new about cars. Previous ride no such issue with my 14" wheels. Hahha... Yes. Coz when our stock tyres are still new, i still can sell for $100 - $120. But if you really dun want to change all, then must always consider change as a pair. (either 2 front or 2 back)

Columbian78 6th Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 (edited) The actual tyre prices are alot cheaper at the tyre shops than what is listed in the local Distributor's website (e.g. Bridgestone and Michelin). Those are just Recommended retail prices. Probably only Autobacs sell at those prices. For GR100 17 inch was about $180 to 190 per piece before promotion like the $50 discount when I purchased about half year ago. I guess 16 inch should be abit cheaper. Can ask from many of the popular shops like leong seng, eng wah, etc. Edited October 15, 2015 by Columbian78

Robtan99 1st Gear October 15, 2015 Share October 15, 2015 Went to a shop the guy say my 4- day old tyres can or eat at $20/pc me and my colleague sell our 2 months old tyres for $120. I dont go to tyre shop, mostly chop carrot cake. You should advertise here at marketplace and there will be buyers interested at that price. IF no buyers interested, then continue using the tyres... win win situation...
Cicada1810 1st Gear October 18, 2015 Share October 18, 2015 Wouldn't increasing the size of the tyre from the standard stock size increase the effort of the engine to run at the vehicle at 'x' distance? While a bigger tyre naturally means larger distance per rotation of a tyre, it also means that it requires more power from the engine to overcome the enhanced friction from the bigger tyre, as compared to the stock-sized tyre. This additional power required to overcome that friction may naturally offset any mileage gained from the rotation of a bigger tyre. Unless the specification of the car allows a wider tyre, I wouldn't increase the size of the tyre. I can't remember if the 1.6 variant allows 17' tyre to be retrofitted but I know the 1.8 variant comes with a standard 17' because the engine is powerful enough to efficiently run the vehicle. I might be wrong. Pls advise if my understanding of the physics is incorrect. my experience with wider tires is there are not much difference in FC. the thing why i prefer 215/55/R16 is due to the fact it can match back the same size of our currently wheel set. if you use 205/55/R16 the wheel size will be smaller by ard 2-3%. so your speedo meter will show u are driving faster. meaning if ur meter is 90km/hr, maybe ur actual speed is 80 plus a bit. A larger circumference effectively makes the engine work harder during acceleration (even if the tyre widths remain the same.) However if you do a lot of highway travelling, that might translate to a lower engine RPM vs speed, so it is actually good for cruising (e.g. if you go down NSHW or you work in Tuas and live in Tampines). But in Singapore context I think most people drive >50% of the time in start/stop traffic so it's not going to help fuel efficiency. Some people switch to a wider tyre to gain grip. I think that's a fallacy. A slight 10mm (1cm) extra width in the tyre is not going to give you anything. The right thing to do is to switch to a better tyre, not a wider tyre.

If you use 205/55/R16, the new tires size will be small. using this link below to calculate, http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator Even you change to 17" rim, you can use a lesser profile tires to offset the wheel size. To reply your question, in theory, large or wider tires = less efficiency. But as i mention, i do not feel much different by changing to a wider tires. i more of concern about wider tires will hit my fender or not. Anyway i prefer more contact to the ground anytime. And my objective is to increase the width not circumference of the wheel. Hi all, Does anyone face the problem of the console box not able to spring open? try re-seating your ash tray in the console box. Cicada1810 1st Gear October 21, 2015 Share October 21, 2015 Hi all, Does anyone face the problem of the console box not able to spring open? Suggest you get it repaired. The cover should spring open when you unlatch. Not a major cause of concern even if it is not repaired. But it's like a pain in the neck if you leave it undone. ↡ Advertisement
