Dwoon 1st Gear July 29, 2009 Share July 29, 2009 (edited) Nice place for family. Got :- - Aquarium which is next to duty free shopping. - Boat ride to see eagle feeding, fish farm, bat cave. - Pasar Malam (which moves about during the week, need to ask locals where it is for which day) - The beach of course - Diving if you're into it. (Take a boat ride out to Pulau Payar) or just view the fish feeding if not diving. - Island hopping - Cable car ride upto the suspension bridge - Visit glass works & local handicraft centre You've gotta drive there to run around & really see more, like go to the waterfalls, etc.... without having to pay for a tour. Car rental prices are bargainable..... and start from as low as RM$70/day for a proton saga during off peak. With the budget air fares, you might want to consider flying there instead and spend more time. If you drive, you'll pay petrol, toll, parking, ferry fare..... and the time taken to get there (not considering your peace of mind on whether your car would still be there when you return and can it start after a week). Also, if you carry alot of barang.... you'd have to lug it with you on & off the ferry. I did 7 nights there last year and plan on going back...... I'd took a flight & rented a car there since the price between driving & flying was negligible. If your GPS is running on Malsingmaps, most if not all of the attractions are already in there. Dwoon 1st Gear July 29, 2009 Share July 29, 2009 (edited) Malaysian airlines is having promo at SGD165 per ticket. (Check air asia out for their rates, might be even cheaper) Do work out the overall costs of driving, parking, petrol, tolls, ferry tickets. You'll be surprised at how little you'll save thru' flying. (But save on convenience, less risk of car problems after parking for extended time & more holiday time) Either way, you'll need to rent a car ovr there. (Not worth to bring your car over the last time I checked the rates, unless you're there for more than 2 weeks) Edited July 29, 2009 by Dwoon

Mechwira 1st Gear July 29, 2009 Share July 29, 2009 Just booked air asia + pelangi resort stay for 3 nights for ard SGD1K+ (2 adults & 2 children) First time there.. Still considering whether to rent car to drive ard or look for local tour ... since u have 2 days in between arrival and departure, i recommend one day tour package, either island-hopping or eagle tour. unfortunately you cant do both in one day, and these cant really rent a car and go. as for the second day, go see the in-island attractions like the underwaterworld and cable car via your own rented car. in-island attractions much better via rented car as you get to decide exactly which attraction you want to visit and how much time to spend at each attraction. tour package would be restrictive in terms of itinerary and timing, and besides its not hard to find your own way around, just be sure to purchase the map. Mechwira 1st Gear July 30, 2009 Share July 30, 2009 any particular car rental agency to recommend with good rental rates? Now trying to the plan iternary for the trip.. rentals are all over the place, cant think of any one in particular, but theres really no need to. just be sure to check at least 2 or 3 of them before committing to one. its not so much the price, its the car available. fren of mine made the mistake of immediately going for the rental at the hotel at ended up with a ridiculously small kenari before realising other rentals nearby had bigger cars available. dont expect luxurious cars, but you can certainly do better than a kenari. for tours, take a look here. most of the tour itinerary are identical to the one in this site. just remember i said go for island-hopping or eagle-feeding, and use rental car for in-island. and booking the tour from this site is reliable, i tried it before and no screw-ups. although i must warn you its more expensive by S$20 to S$30 per pax compared to booking at the hotel when you arrive. then again, it offers peace of mind coz you avoid a situation of arriving at the hotel and finding the tour packages all fully booked. your choice. Dwoon 1st Gear July 31, 2009 Share July 31, 2009 Actually, I did all my booings wen I arrived. The hotel people all moonlight and you can bargain on the tour rates when there. Much cheaper. Like I booked one boat to ourselves (only 3 of us) and paid like RM$280 for the eagle feeding, fish farm, bat cave tour. If you go by per head, it'll be slightly more expensive and you squeeze with other people on the boat.

Dwoon 1st Gear July 31, 2009 Share July 31, 2009 Only at the shopping malls...... just park by the road side lor... like the locals..... no need to pay. But there are road blocks and their police there is no diff from their mainland counterparts.... so don't get spooked by them and give $$$. They asked me for license and then asked when expire. I told them its for life (which they cannot find stated on the card and obviously seeking hand-outs)..... then I told them if they wanted clarification, they can ask our Sgp government or embassy why its not written and to confirm with them if they didn't believe. They lan lan ask me to drive off..... Parking is not free around KUAH
Dwoon 1st Gear July 31, 2009 Share July 31, 2009 (edited) Your need a boat to access those areas...... feeding of eagles is in the middle of the mangroves (on water), fish farm is a floating one, bat caves are also accessible by boat only...... Of course you have to drive to the jetty lah (then park under the trees there)..... since its not a full paid tour so you don't expect the boat man to come to your hotel to pick you up.
