Black ants - How to get rid of them in the house?

Dear all,

Ants problem .... black ones. Seems to be getting alot lately.

Any good way to remove them?

Try getting those ant/cockroach baits from NTUC or any supermarket. It is a thin box with a few compartments of crumbs-like powder on them. Pour it on a tissue paper and mix them with some biscuit crumbs with it and put it near the suspected nest or along their tail. The ants and cockroach will sense the biscuits and bring them both back to their nest. This way, you get to wipe out the nest as well.

Best thing is, it cost only $1.20. Better than those other baits that cost 3 or 5 times more.

The powder/pellet form is quite effective if near the nest, otherwise, in my experience, the ants tend to avoid or alternatively die while carrying back to the nest. You can kill all the ants you see and have peace for a while but only killing the colony will eliminate the problem - till another colony takes up residence. Try the gel type bait, it is sold in a syringe type applicator. Brand I found in Singapore is Combat - which is also available in supermarkets but only in pellet or bait station form. The gel form is best, though, because the ants actually ingest it and get back to the nest quickly, and distribute it among the colony quickly. I've so far found this product in the Homefix DIY shops at Tanglin Mall and VivoCity - it is one of the best pest control products available to the general public.

Imagine I stay between 25floor~30floor, en-bloc new building, the only things I bring over from the old place is some clothes and personal stuff like the PC, everything else is new. No bugs, ants of any sort. Dan when neighbours start moving in only all these pests start to appear. Can lizard & ants climb so many floors?

Where the ants in my house come from? My neighbours god damn potted plants have several ant nests in them and they try to migrate to my apartment but failed horribly. Finally my neighbour ask me why I dun have potted plants. I couldn't be more happier and said they attract bugs and I pointed out his had whole lot of ants. He was embarrassed and threw them away.

Most importantly is look for the source of these pests. They reproduced quickly and traps only kill a small % . Find the source and get rid of it once and for all.

For ants, it only takes one queen (who can fly in the beginning) to land somewhere - 25th to 30th floor is nothing for them. Of course the potted plants are the most attractive as nest sites which in a way, you were lucky.

Lizards on such high floor also not surprising. Possibly the building was spanking new when you bought it. My family moved into a rather new estate a few years ago, and I never saw a single house lizard around the void decks and lights. Today the estate is full of them.

I am trying out the ant powder recently, still waiting to see the results.

Tell us about the outcome here ... [nod]

Simply go into any HDB hardware/provision shop. Ask them for ant poison. Each packet shouldn't cost more than $1.50. I bought my supply from Malaysia. They're really cheap, about RM1.00 per packet. Don't bother with the expensive stuff. There are many brands around, most are made in China. The basically work the same way.

Place a little bit of the powder along the path where the ants walk. The ants love the taste of the poison. They'll then carry the stuff back to their nest, where they'll consume the poison. Pretty soon, the entire family (of ants) will be dead! It'll take approximately 2-3 days to see results. Won't see the ants for months thereafter.

Thanks for that .... will go buy and try. [thumbsup]

Turbocharged

Combat is the name of the bait. I have been using it on and off for many years. Just one tray and ants will disappear for a few months. Best thing is you do not have to puncture the tray or anything. The bait is within the tray and is good for those with children or pets at home.

Do consider the high tech way. Baits and poisons are hits and misses and do not always work. Over time, the pests also develope resistance to it, which makes it ineffective. Also such chemicals may be poisonous to innocent animals and infants. I bought a Pest-Stop ultrasonic device which I just plug into a power socket at my dinning room, and so far it's been very effective.

Hello,

Can you suggest to me which company provide ant control services?

actually, the reason is that I purchase a new house but the problem is their ant create a problem for my room and I tired kill for ant so, please suggest to me this service.

Thanks!

Sounds like you are staging an war with ants which is not so wise. Even a pest control company could help you once, they cant help you forever. the only way to reduce presence of ants is to keep a house clean. A where do you stay? SGP? a landed ? It the situation that bad that you need anylts control service?

I have tiny ants that move very fast in my house, coming in from outside. Sprayed at window to prevent, but they still roaming about. Anyone has problem with these?

We have now and again in the kitchen although we are scrupulous about cleanliness.

You need to follow the trail to see if there is a nest inside the house.

We use mossie spray, doesn't seem to matter which one.

A light spray along a trail or along a window ledge stops them for maybe 6 months then they start again so we spray again.

I have found a nest a few weeks ago in one of my unused cabinet. Cleared it, but ants are running everywhere. Called pest control, they put bait, failed, ants still roaming after a few days. So we sprayed at entry points. Now seemed to be under control.

But the problem is, we still can see ants outside the window trying to make their way in. We sprayed Shieldtox on the outside wall, but after a few days they can just crawl over the sprayed area. Thought that should have some residual effect that repels them? But of course, perhaps it's on the outside so washed away by rain so the residue effect is reduced.

I also sprayed Bio X on the inside of the window perimeter for double protection. But the outside ants bothered me, coz if I dont check everyday and spray, they will enter.

Lately been having lots of black ants in the kitchen, they seem to found safe refuge in the house away from the heavy rain storms.

Followed the trail from which they came in and squirt "Singer" oil all round the perimeter.

For those that have invaded and are in the kitchen, I spray water mixed with a bit of liquid detergent on them.

Safe and effective.

Wow, Singer oil, this is a first I have heard! Is it effective in preventing them from entering? How long can the residual effect last?
