Plexus Neutral Newbie August 18, 2009 Share August 18, 2009 Hey bros, About 2 weeks ago, I mounted my GPS suction cup to my car windscreen (with 3M solar film). Recently, the suction cup dropped off and I noticed there's 2 fine ring marks left on the windscreen. I tried to clean it with water and cloth but it seems to be embedded on the solar film - I suspect the solar film has shrink and created the ring marks. Does anyone has any suggestions on how I can remove the fine ring marks? Will 3M honor the warranty since it's lifetime warranty (and it did not specifically state that no mounting of suction cup except 1 week after installation). ↡ Advertisement

Siewss 1st Gear August 18, 2009 Share August 18, 2009 Hey, cool man. It didn't even specifically state not to mount suction cups on it. I was just trying to ask for opinions! Maybe you can ask the 3M installer to use a heat gun and see if he can flatten it out.

Silver_blade Turbocharged August 18, 2009 Share August 18, 2009 No harm try asking if 3M can solve the problem FOC...otherwise just pay for the repair.
Plexus Neutral Newbie August 18, 2009 Author Share August 18, 2009 Maybe you can ask the 3M installer to use a heat gun and see if he can flatten it out. Can I just go to any 3M installer to get it done?
Silver_blade Turbocharged August 18, 2009 Share August 18, 2009 Better to go back to the same installer. Most of the installers are a seperate entity from 3M...they are just a retailer.

Felipe 3rd Gear August 20, 2009 Share August 20, 2009 it may be too late but at least this may help to solve future problems. my friend uses the suction cup but he mounts it on the visor strip (that extra long dark strip that comes usually free with solar films). As it blocks out more heat, the suction cup stays. if not, only mount when you need to. Keeping it on windscreen too long will make it fall off. Plexus Neutral Newbie August 28, 2009 Author Share August 28, 2009 Just some updates and for future reference. I contacted 3M and they replied that it should not have been the case (suction cup marks) though they discourage mounting suction cups on windscreen with solar films. However, I told them that as they did not specifically state in the product description not to mount any suction cups (only clause is not to do so 1 week after installation), they honored the product warranty and I managed to get mine redone at their authorized applicator at no cost Guess it's lesson learnt and good reference for others who intends to mount suction cup on your windscreen with solar film. Thanks for all the advice and help! ↡ Advertisement
