me no expert in 2nd hand car. but the basic you can do is to send the car to STA for them to evaluate.

If you buy new car ... approx 70% of depreciation is in first 5 years.

If you buy used car ... the last 5 yrs is just approx 30% of depreciation.

Work out the sums above ... see what you can do with the amount of cash saved ... ur decision will come naturally next. [thumbsup]

Hi all,

Looking for some advice down here. If I am planning to go overseas to work in about 4 to 5 years time. Would it be advisable to get a sec hand say a 05 car ( Range ~30K) versus a brand new car? I suppose a sec hand car would make more sense, but how does the calculation goes?

Anyone has any idea what hidden charges are there on top of the price stated on sgcarmarts? I do not wish to fall into such trap..

Are sec hand dealers allowed to charge GST, I heard there should not be any admin or kopi money as well other than the transfer fee

If you are going away in 5 years

I would get a 5 year old Getz or Pica

and scrap it in 5 years time.

Both are good cars, the 1.1 uses the same

engine and its cheap to service and run.

Oil 3 litres, filter $5 and plug $10.

Road tax about $440 a year.

I was thinking of getting a 07 lancer, prefer a slightly larger interior

there's no rules on what they can and cannot charge. best is go republic auto. this used car dealer is a subsidiary of CNC.

they told me can test drive, only if we can agree on a price first. their price is pretty EX, and no extension of warranty for C&C cars, unlike PML.
