Tatkoon Neutral Newbie September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 will you fight the insurance claim ( % of liability) if you bang into the car in front of you which had all 3 brake light faulty? ↡ Advertisement
WTF 4th Gear September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 It will depend on the traffic condition, weather condition (eg. heavy rain), road condition (well-lit?) and colour of the car in front. If these factors are favourable, I'll definitely fight against the claim.
Ev0lutionz Clutched September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 I experienced before. This car quite old already braked but it was only near 1 sec that i saw him slow down cause he had no brake lights.
7an Neutral Newbie September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 will you fight the insurance claim ( % of liability) if you bang into the car in front of you which had all 3 brake light faulty? At the end of the day, your insurance company will still pay the other parties but at a lesser amount and deduct your NCD. Does not make much difference to you. Ladykillerz 4th Gear September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 will you fight the insurance claim ( % of liability) if you bang into the car in front of you which had all 3 brake light faulty? It's better to have proof then proceed to discuss with your car insurance company. If your car insurance company willing to fight against, good for you. Go all the way. Else, you might have to hire your own lawyer to fight for it. Worth it? You decide. It's a 50-50 game. Good Luck!
Mcf777 Turbocharged September 16, 2009 Share September 16, 2009 (edited) will you fight the insurance claim ( % of liability) if you bang into the car in front of you which had all 3 brake light faulty? if this is the real case and it happens, i would say that the driver who bang into the car deserve it. he should siam him instead of grumbling here. Tas0577 1st Gear September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 I experienced before. This car quite old already braked but it was only near 1 sec that i saw him slow down cause he had no brake lights. Not only old car but I saw some Sonata Taxi also having this problem with no brake light working as they keep stepping on brake so the light bulbs blow off faster than anybody. Hermitage 1st Gear September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 unless u got another witness..or else even if u hit the back of the car they will say its spoilt due to ur knock.. Exactly, you have no proof whatsoever that his/her brake lights were faulty in the first place. Anyway, recently, have noticed quite a few cars with NO brake lights. It's a very disconcerting feeling when you're driving behind one and suddenly you realise that the no-brake-light car is quickly getting closer & closer to you for no apparent reason! It takes far longer to react and apply your own brakes Once I realise what's going on, I will always switch lanes and overtake the joker, failing which, I will do all it takes not to remain directly behind this idiot
Skxly Neutral Newbie September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 I have also come across cars with always-on brake lights ... another pain in the ***
Thestig Clutched September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 You will still bear most of the damage claim but you can get back by informing the traffic police that the car did not have working brake lights which would cause the driver to incur a fine and points maybe?? Also, I agree, those sonata taxis always seem to have more broken taillights then most cars.

It takes far longer to react and apply your own brakes Once I realise what's going on, I will always switch lanes and overtake the joker, failing which, I will do all it takes not to remain directly behind this idiot  The problem with brake lights is that most of the time, the owners themselves are not aware that their lights aren't working. Every week, I will purposely drive to an MSCP (my home & office car parks are all open car parks) and reserve towards a wall and observe the lights reflection on the wall to check whether my brake lights are working, and 1 fine weekend during my routine check I found that all 3 brake lights were not working (nothing wrong with my electrical system, just that suay suay all 3 brake light bulbs choose to blow at roughly the same time), hence during that week, I might be driving for a few days without any brake lights . Hence actually we cannot totally blame the owners for driving without brake lights as it's not something that can be checked on your own daily easily. MLS Clutched September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 Otherwise you can try this method like how i do it at times.. At traffic lights i depress my brakes and look through my side mirrors to see the reflection on the headlights of the vehicle behind. You will see the headlights of the vehicle behind brighter red when you step and vice versa. May sound silly but it works!

Can check very clearly through the bus windscreen reflection.
Kyojin 1st Gear September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 maybe a good time to invest in recording equipment. in most cases, accidents are your word against his. most people wouldn't stand as witness. typical kiasee mentality. but your camera won't lie. a taxi cuts you off suddenly without signaling and causes an accident, the driver has no defense. if he did signal, slowly filtered and you still you rammed into him, then it's your fault. think they should install on all taxis, considering how much time they spend on the roads. will promote good driving behavior too. Circuit Clutched September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 no use one.. police will still give u the usual - didnt keep a safe distance, tailgate etc. - didnt pay attention to traffic, or reckless driving etc. and this 2 will sure slap u hard. --------------- same as veh go straight, u turning, hit ur fault. even u say green at your favour... no witness no use. cause you didnt keep a look out on traffic. your carelessness. and you cause road accident. --------------- to me , no point , more than 50 percent u still ganna, hope for mircale ... and try talking to ur side insureance lawyer see how they say. talk here wont get a accurate ans
Ghostami 2nd Gear September 17, 2009 Share September 17, 2009 I think no case for this, the brake light is just a warning, but when you are driving, you should be observing your distance. this is the best gauge. Don't tell me your car gets closer and closer and you are still waiting for the brake light to show up than you step on your brakes, by than maybe your speed is already to fast and distance is too short to stop in time. ↡ Advertisement
