I agree with you. Known brands with proven record selling at $60 and below is good enough for me. The most I would pay is for Redline.

Why risk something unknown and pay 2x, 3x more ?

What do you expect to gain ?

I was using OWS

i've been using ows turbo racing oil for coming to 3 yrs now.thought its pretty good ? why sudden swop to speedmaster?

but to be honest , usually right after oil change , engine is usually quite smooth .

on my current engine usually during morning cold start i will experience piston slapping and the sound is quite significant.but after using

ows the sound is not so bad anymore.one of the worst i have used is HKS racing oil. and it gets heated up pretty fast which is not

so ideal for local street use.

Was using ows but now switched to elf.... found ows to be too thin... great for initial 3k~5k but after that the engine oil level kept dipping... elf seems to last me longer....

mine seems to last quite well until around 5k mileage . anyway for our turbo charged vehicles its advised to have oil change intervals at 5k mileage , not?

Sometime I believe it is "placebo effect"

Rough or smooth, 5K or 7K sometimes I believe the minds plays the trick... eg. similar case applies to different RON ratings petrol, of RON98 (Esso vs. Caltex vs. Shell vs. SPC). People say have power difference, I think maybe their body have a super duper sensitive sensor to detect the increase in 1 or 2 bhp, torque.

Dear members, I believe you will agree with me that the use of any brand of engine oil, the cost and its viscosity is a personal preference.

The purpose of me posting the product that I use is because I have tried something new and share with fellow members on its characteristics and deliverance.

Even before posting, I have already anticipated what members would post their views be it positive or negative. The fact here is that whether I use engine oil that costs S$50 or S$200 and a brand that is not so popularly known by vehicle owners in Singapore is a personal preference.

The fact is that I dared to try out such products so as to compare its differences, quality, deliverance, etc with the other common brands that I have used before speaks for itself.

Why there are vehicle owners who are prepared to pay S$70 or more for engine oil instead of an S$40 one, both being synthetic oil. Surely, there are differences in the product quality such as the admixtures, etc.

Likewise for petrol. Why are some vehicle owners prepared to pay so much more for highest grade and not the normal ones? It's not that their vehicles cannot use the latter but because the former delivers more power with certain admixtures in it.

Appended below is an extract that I collated on the "so-call' not popular engine oil that I used:

"The oil is usually high rotational direction of the long-term sports, like running to prevent wear due to high load is mixed with various additives may cause the sludge generated by exposure to high temperatures. The oil composition containing a combination of a lot of biased to enhance specific performance characteristics, and may cause trouble and difficult to dissolve the base oil additives.

The Speedmaster is thoroughly pursue basic performance required for oil without relying on large amounts of additives, get down to it the performance needed from the original formulation of oil-based formulations, blending until the commitment from the choice of material, all of all engines The perfect blend of balance not only cope with all situations 100% synthetic oil.

The change in viscosity at high temperatures can stabilize the molecular structure, oil film, and sealing will be enhanced. Reduces frictional resistance to the breaking point by the agent.

Designed with an emphasis on durability, especially under high temperatures. Oil temperature, superior hydraulic stability, protects the engine in the long hours under harsh conditions and strong film. Speed Master is a flavor of more power, plus a special oil to improve the response".

Neutral Newbie

at the end of the day, nothing beats having fresh oil in the car as often as possible. Engine oil is blood/life to the car.

Fresh oil = fresh blood = new lease of life.

expensive oil, change once vs average priced oil, change often.

Which is better? To each its own.

The other thing about engine oil is that if it's priced at $200, $300 people automatically conclude that it must be good.

If you priced it at $50, the oil must be bad.

Example 4L of Redline sold at certain store cost maybe $60. If you buy the same off Autobac, it costs $150.

If you do not know the real price, you would think that the Redline at Autobac is top quality bcoz it costs at least $100.

Heck, all of Autobac oil are good bcoz they costs at least $100.

Can someone explain WTF this passage is talking about? Sounds like they hired a copywriter from Vietnam who used babelfish to aid his translation. [dizzy]

Seriously, Mike, I ain't all that well versed in cars except for the simple stuff but this mumbo jumbo above is not adding to your street cred after your "CVT is Honda transmission" post many moons ago.

First time I read that EO can contribute to power gain. That mean my Redline EO can aid me to redline everytime ? Just joking.
