Do u believe the mileage

It's very, very easy to tamper the mileage if you have the right equipment. Don't forget that the average annual mileage of a car in singapore is 21000km. This is a figure released by LTA. Compare this to the mileages if cars being advertised on sgcarmart.com. Of course there are special cases but there are just too many 'low mileage' cars to be true. I think at least 30-40% of used cars have their mileage tampered.

when i sold my civic of 2.5year old...the mileage was 38 000km++ only.

 

mostly used at night and weekends.

 

My 3 year 2months car only clock 37555km till date.

My Friend also bought a Nissan Latio when it was 2yo at abt 7K milage.

 

Cos the previous owner was a Japanese Expat who has to fly back to Japan every now and then..

 

Checked with TCM, the only the 1K servicing was done there...

7K only? does not make sense.. you mean buy the car and put it in the carpark for display? unless the owner was posted overseas??

 

i just check with my friend, the dealer claim that the ex-owner was posted overseas so left the car for the father to drive, but the father seldom drive.

that aside, i just checked the car's tire. It stock tires MY2906 and the thread still new like 90% or more. so i have to say my fren very lucky to get this ride, seems 7k mileage is believeable

car dekitted and old stock tyres were replaced, who knows? the possibilities are endless. this car may in fact be really only 7000km. check the suspension and you'll know. 7000km shocks will look VERY clean and dustless. of course the best way is to check with AD on the service history. that's the most telling.

 

for big ticket items like cars, always best to err on the safer side. especially since there are many people who have bad experiences with unscrupulous car dealers.

if the odometer was tampered, it would be a more credible mileage like 20k and not something like 7k which raises eyebrows. the mileage is probably genuine. check for tell tales signs such as condition of seat upholstery etc. unlikely people bother to re-upholster.

i never believe in mileage. I have a good friend who is salesman of a famous Pi company. He told me that 9/10 car dealers twit the mileage and that's the way of making $$$ you don't do other car dealers will do. Why would u be prefer to be so honest and not make money?? stupid right, and since other car dealers are doing it, you will lose out if you don't.

twiting mileage is 1 of the very very small thing, it's very very normal doing that. You can sue them or demend compensation if u find evidence against them from what my good friend told me. But you would be able to 95%.

 

1 of the most basic/simple ways are.

most people who buy cars from agent will only service with them at 1k and 5k. Or maybe the 1st few time. And service records at the agent will maybe stay at 20 000k? so when for example my car is now 70k km and i sell it to them (the car dealers) they will take in my car at a low price let's say 8k for body. Which is ridiculous cos of high mileage. After buying over your car they will call the agent servicing center and check the records which is 20k. After wards they will twit it to let's say 40k depending of how long the period between the last service time and now. Pay a few hundred bucks for it. Magic the mieage will become 40k.

 

1week later u will see it posted at sgcarmart. Low mileage almost new. milt condition. Full agent servicing records available 1 owner 1 lady owner, come and view this beauty if you miss it it's your loss blah vlah blah.

 

due to the very "low mileage" the price of the car is jacked up high again cos of the very low mileage. 2-3hundred bucks is so worth the money spend. In exchange for 20k body value selling to others?

Everyday clock 20km nia if i never go out after work....

House to workplace only 10 mins drive

The other reason being, i have a small motorbike so i will ride to places with parking problems or town.....

Was told dealers can "adjust" the mileage to "more reasonable" readings. But if car has been serviced in AD, especially recent, then they may not wanna do it, cos can check. But Kah Motor does not give any 1K, 5K free servicing right ? Chances are there that owner never return to AD since collected car.

 

7,000km for a 3yr old normal plate car seems "impossible". My previous OPC when solde at 3.5yrs is 21,000km, already consider very low liao

the most st forward to tamper is jus to change the whole speedo, if the dealer cant break the code so its def easy to alter the odo reading.

like some bros said such cases i wil sure check w AD...

or get a mec to help assess...the simplest spark plug can also provide some clues..

Tempering with the ODO is fraud case.

 

If got evidence that the dealer tempered with the mileage. Don't scared. Go buy the car.

After that, tell him you gonna go to Police to report. Then ask him for out-of-court settlement sum.

Hi ppl.

 

I join this forum because i am a casualty and i want to tell my part of the story.I had bought an opc toyota from the car agent late last year,advertised in Sgcarmart.The car still got close to 7 yrs before scrap..

 

Mileage claimed is 4xxxx km but when i went for servcing,the previous owner happen to go to same workshop previously and all the transaction records is there..The workshop record shows an whopping 8xxxxkm mileage....

 

Boss of the workshop then call the 1st owner for clarification.1st owner explained that he changed the meter and forgot to adjust back the mileage.WTF??He obviously trying to pull a fast one...He also confessed he go malaysia very often....Called up my agent and he tried to settle with me with non sincere propositions...Say 3 party sit down and talk....In my mind talk what??All the paperwork done already and the car is rightfully under my name....Lan Lan now...

 

I strongly believe it is all collaborated.....Who in the right mind will buy a 8xxxx km opc?Went to Case and now only one step away from a legal lawsuit...

 

Just to ask who can offer advise?
