Will you buy a DIY gaming or high-end pc?

  1. 1. Would you consider buying a DIY / self-assembled gaming or high-end PC if it has the same specs/original components but cost 20-30% less than a branded one with nicer looks and warranty support?

I would build one...because I know how, I get the satisfaction, and I'm pretty sure it will beat most on the market high end rig....

DIY / self-assembled = custom made tailor to your need... check around at hardwarezone.com to get recomendation for the latest graphic cards, motherboard + CPU combo. The people there can answer u better what you should get according to your budget and requirement...

a gentle reminder, try to be humble in HWZ, their members there is many time more aggressive than here [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

actually, i am thinking of starting a small business to assemble and sell these things. trying to see if there is a market.

i prefer to test here 1st cos the audience here more mature and more spending power. i feel the other site a lot of teens with alter-ego [lipsrsealed] who give responses which are not necessarily true.

The headache of doing this as a business is isolating the troubled component. For myself, just swapped with spare component to isolate. But if for some cstomer or even friends, really headache...

hi bro/sis,

do conduct ur market study carefully, as in the past years, there has (or had) been many pple with the same concept.

Some actually done it !! there are already some of such pple in HWZ touting their services for a very very nominal fee, and their svc n support is really good. really hard to beat. honest. and even the listing of the parts there is available for every budget and camp. and most of these information is available FOC.

If you factor software cost in .... then those branded ones will win DIY liao.

It is good to conduct more studies before you jump into this business. The profit margin is very low. If you go to Sim Lim Sq (5th floor) to look around, you can purchase whatever components and chassis you want per their price list and ask them to assemble for you at only $20.

Not neccessary. It depend on what type of OS license you getting. If you get those 1 PC only type of license, its actually quite competitive.

meaning if someone is selling a DIY one you will not buy, because you can assemble yourself too?

usually what i do is choose the parts/components i want n get the shop to assemble for me... think assembling cost extra $30-50 only.

DIY pcs not good for ppl who dun like to DIY.

if components spolit, dunno how to troubleshoot. must go to individual coys for replacement (if any).

memory chips got warranty or not?

i save the headache, buy branded. if anything wrong, whether memory, graphic card, monitor all covered by the pc brand.

For a "branded computer" at 1k i can get you a DIY one that performs almost 2x yours

Just go do some research on parts, buy them from several shops in SLS then get a shop to assemble at 20 bucks.

Branded comps always have halfassed or out of date or inhouse chipsets running, they will short cut abit here and there, most notably in the GFX card department. If you are a normal user only for internet surfing, light flash games then buying branded is ok as you are not very tech savvy anyway.

For those who are abit more adept, its not that hard to troubleshoot the comp anyway.
