If your friend's car total loss for either theft/accident/etc are you able to pay for it?

Better to drive a rental company's car.

I think some insurance policy do not cover Thailand.

you will need the log card and a letter of authorisation from your friend stating to let you drive the car.

insurance copy is a must too.

they will take time to proceed and some tips will sure assist in fastering the process...

You will need to have the log card or the print out of the log card , a letter of authorization from your friend , authorizating you to drive the car thru Thai customs . Remember that the letter needs to state your friend's NRIC number as stated on the Log card . Just right after passing thru thai customs , you can purchase 3rd party insurance for coverage in Thailand . They have an insurance booth right after the customs . 170 baht for 9 days coverage .

Just back from a Phuket drive trip this week ..... :D
