A Dilemma about Primary Sch Parent Volunteer

I think mature estates easier to get into the primary schools now. My son got into cat high which used to be very hard to get. Got in under phase 2A2 without balloting at all. Even phase 2B also quite high chance of getting in now.

Phase 2A2 is almost guaranteed for most schools.. Except those weird years, and it made news I remembered.

secondary sch so come home already 4-5pm how to nap, no sleeping in car cos she go to school on her own, LRT->Mrt->switch Mrt->walk. before the down town line was ready, has to change to bus.

but she super motivated type i guess partly due to peer pressure.

If secondary school then no choice. But for primary especially lower primary they need to have enough sleep.

If father is driving, no need to wake at 5 plus. Leave home 6:30am still can make it from sk to bt.

E.g. my son sec school is clementi, leave the house from sk at 6:30, arrive before 7:10am.

wow..from sk to clementi is no joke  [thumbsup]

I find it a common sight for students to leave the house at around 6:30am, even for neighborhood schools. Those taking school bus are even worst, some have to be at the pick up point by 6:15 am even though their schools are nearby.

AS long the parents are willing to drive, my opinion , don't let distance get in the way in the school choices when there's an opportunity for an earlier phase.. Wake up time is not much different for those taking public transport to nearby school. Unless you want one that is only a 10 min walk, 7 am leave home still plenty of time.

You are to say if parents are driving, time can be controlled to suit the children. I know of some who took school bus who really need to wake up very early because timing is fixed as the school bus need to pick up other children at various location along the way.

Got to support son's choice. Though we did ask him to consider a nearer school . But once he knows I will fetch him regardless of which choice he made, I guess he chose to make me suffer.. [laugh]

Coming 10yr old latio. Upper Serangoon Rd (dropper wife at Potong Pasir)-> PIE-> Adam rd -> Holland Rd, Clementi. Average time taken is just 35 mins.. An a bad day is 40 mins..

If on days no  need to dropped wife at Potong PAsir, its' KPE > PIE-> same as aboce. This will take 30 mins or less.. SK to BT should be faster for te family who stayerd in SK to NY.

if one kid and whole family leave together in the same car ok lah

Yes, school bus is a bad choice. When my son was in Mari Stella for his primary, we did consider school bus, to fetch from Potong PAsir, In law place less than 2km, The bus operator wants him to be at the pick up point by 6:05am.. The choice was clear that I will fetch him to school, leave at 6:40am from SK, arrive 7:00am.

But chances are all siblings will be in the same school due to phase 2A1.. So all will leave together.

So try to get into a mix school if the kids are both girl and boy.

The fastest I ever made from Sengkang to Clementi under offpeak conditions is 25 minutes.

Steady!

Yeah. Same for my son. School is around 1km away. But schoolbus picks up at 6am. And it costs so much. Rather fetch him myself. End up walking him to school everyday cuz its faster by foot than driving cuz of the traffic around the schools. Even letting him take grabhitch to school everyday also cheaper than schoolbus.

years back, i used to get home in 20mins. 11pm at night. I do drive very fast then cos I'm in a rush to get home and need to be up again for work the next day.

But my parent's home is at the fringe of clementi. so no need to go into the estate proper and get slowed by traffic lights.

30mins is very good for normal daytime traffic.

Doctor, you graduated from neighbourhood school?

yes. I am an alumni of clementi north primary school. Which no longer exists  [:p]

My dear principal rejected my parents request to allow my transfer to Henry Park when i was in primary 3 (i was already accepted by henry park in principle).  [furious]  [furious]  [furious]

So now 25 years later, i have to spend 80 hours of me and my wife's spare time to be a PV.

nah. this is a transfer that my parents arrange themselves one.

I failed at the Henry Park ballot at the primary 1 registration, so my parents have always been trying to get me into Henry park.

Since I've been the top 1-2 student in the grade since i was primary 1, the Henry Park side accepted me in principle but the Henry park principal didn't want to antagonise my principal, so he/she said only if my principal approves...

GEP streaming, that one unfortunately i don't have the capability haha

Since you have girl, you can try moving to BT and apple rgps for your daughter at 2C. Heard the chance quite good.
