1fast1 Supersonic March 15, 2013 Share March 15, 2013 Agree with u fully. Maybe Turbo had a rough week? No offense. I sometimes feel that way when life gets me down. When I'm more upbeat, I can find it in me to do more small acts of kindness. It's only human. Make that a *very* rough year or more. ↡ Advertisement
Boyboy 1st Gear March 17, 2013 Share March 17, 2013 You didnt hear of Giro b4? Well I have friends who are high earners there >180k, so they come here to SG instead. So we have lower end going there and higher end coming here. Yes we are a tax haven. I guess that did wonders for our GINI coefficient huh Wait, I don't use GIRO, so please enlighten me, does GIRO mean that your income tax is deducted before it even reaches you?? Wow that would be really cool! That would be just as good as down under! It really is a buggeration to pay taxes after the money has reached my bank account. Not a real problem for me but still feels better never having the money that I need to pay, into my pocket in the first place. Luckily CPF goes straight to CPF. it would suck having it in our bank accounts first, eh?
Zanter 3rd Gear March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 Yup its a like a monthly estimation of what you would be earning, so the bank auto pays IRA. Yup problem is that when you see the money in account, you are thinking of ways to spend it

JackRabbit 3rd Gear March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 do people really do that? In Oz, everybody does that - submits income tax claims and usually gets some kind of tax refund. It pays to do so!

JackRabbit 3rd Gear March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 i don't think it's possible to pay too little tax. As the govt deducts at source based on your income, it means that you either pay just enough or too much. So your intent of asking for "paying too little tax" is not sensible. Josephsatu 1st Gear March 19, 2013 Share March 19, 2013 This thread is meant for fellow forumers who have migrated down under or are intending to do so. Those who have, care to share some tips and information about how life is like? What instigated you to do so? Is life really better on the other side? I'm harbouring thoughts of migrating (or quitting, like our government puts it) down under. Life here is getting really suffocating man... no thanks to the influx of people from a certain large Asian country. Starting to feel like a second-rate citizen in my very own country. 2nd rate want to quit alr, wait till u go there and become 3rd rate. On a serious note, went to Darwin on a business trip, the aborignes and the white youngsters drunk everywhere even in the day And almost got mugged. BTW a lot of china businessman due to natural resources there. Perth is nice esp. Fremantle but still.....................

Yahoo : Letter from a “Quitter” Edmund HohInconvenient Questions 27 April, 2016 Why is there lingering resentment towards Singaporeans who have made their home elsewhere? Why do Singaporeans choose to live elsewhere? Edmund Hoh writes frankly about his impressions of life in Singapore and abroad. “So, you’re leaving Singapore? Becoming a quitter?” “Quitter.” “Loser.” These were the words that I heard when I first announced my plans to head Down Under for good. While I was not expecting all ‘hosannas’ and no ‘hoots’, having to deal with naysayers among friends and family alike was quite disheartening. The last few months before I departed Singapore for Melbourne in 2014, I asked myself why there were still disparaging attitudes towards Singaporeans who had left or were planning to leave Singapore. Suffice to say, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong’s words, referring to those who leave as “quitters”, still resonated with some Singaporeans. After I relocated to Melbourne, I began to ask myself: will I trade up my Singapore citizenship for an Australian one? There are no easy answers to this question. The dominant and pragmatic side of me says ‘aye’, simply because I can use my CPF funds for other investments here in Australia. The sentimental side of me, however, cautioned against making a potentially unwise and irreversible decision. After much consideration, I am fairly sure that I will give up my Singapore citizenship in a few years. Showster Twincharged April 28, 2016 Share April 28, 2016 Wait till he needs to sell his Freehold property. Can only sell to Australians. Australia is nice to live in and to explore. Really shiok for travel. Most of the months the weather also quite nice. But working there as an Asian is not easy. If you have a child to bring through education, the best schools there are slower than the most neighbourhood neighbourhood schools here. Pros and cons. Can't have your cake and eat it. But it might work for some. Please don't write for the sake of writing. You have not made up your mind......
