King 1st Gear January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 (edited) i read with interest on his SAt fat Saturated fat (SFA) Saturated fats are generally solid at room temperature. Their saturation with hydrogen atoms makes them solid at room temperature as it affects the shape of the molecules as they pack together. This same saturation means they lack a reactive double bond between carbon atoms. In future posts, I will describe how this makes them less susceptible to oxidation, and therefore less likely to promote coronary disease and other diseases. SFA does not cause heart disease or cancer and does not make you fat. To the contrary, the hormonal satiety and lack of insulin response from eating fats is the key to weight optimization and avoiding the diseases of civilization caused by hyperinsulinemia and high blood glucose levels - diabetes, metabolic syndrome, degenerative diseases like alzheimer dementia, and many of the commonest cancers. Slonez Clutched January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 (edited) Hi CBS, From what I know & experience from my teenage weight lifting days, what you said is basically true. I did not tried high fat diet, but was on high protein/low fat/low carb diet. Reducing the carb intake makes lots of diff. I may give it another go but not counting the fats & cutting the carb, hope it works this time round after 20 yrs Any idea if this kind of diet is recommended for young children/early teens? Also is this recommended for seniors (50+ & above)? Thks. Edited January 21, 2010 by Slonez

King 1st Gear January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 Modern western medicine is great at treating traumatic injuries, but it is woefully deficient at preventing and maintaining good health. It's interesting to see how science is often neglected when it comes to nutrition. agree, MS good at treatng broken bone but bad at treating cancer and other ....... Skunk Clutched January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 I am currently at 66kg with a BMI of 21.6 and a Body Fat percentage of about 14-15%. BMI is only valid as a measurement for sedentary people. The way you exercise is like an amateur athlete already LOL. I also exercise alot, but if u measure my BMI, you will faint LOL. I'm 90kg, 1.75m....by right i should be dead obese, but i'm fitter, stronger than sedentary friends with "healthier" BMI. Reason is that muscles weigh approximately 3 times the weight of fat of the same volume. Whenever i tell people my weight, they're shocked to death hahaha

BMI is usually for more sedentary people. But that applies to 90% of the population! In fact, a better gauge is BF%, but it is harder to measure BF%. Hence BMI has been used as a predictor of BF%. Works 90% of the time and hence is a fast and cheap tool. Wow you have a BMI of 29. You must be ripping with muscles! What's your BF%? If it less than 20% then you are ok. I have not tried them, prefering to get protein from natural sources. I tried the no carb, high fat/protein diet as described by bro CBS some years ago....really good, that's why i have contributed to this thread...but as mentioned, I'm dreadfully addicted to booze, so i have to give it up :( Anything that comes in a pill/powder scares me, so i've not tried any supplements...i don't eat much carbo, i eat alot of protein and drink alot of beer....luckily i exercise alot, as i love outdoor sports....or else i think i will be dead by now and need a double-sized coffin LOL I love hopping up stairs...great exercise, just make sure u don't lose your balance LOL

My philosophy in food is if I can't see or don't know what it's made from I don't eat it! So, you are on a high protein and beer diet. I guess you are not subscribing to the high fat diet anymore, especially the saturated fats kind? What kind of proteins do you consume? As you said, the high fat/low carb diet works. No matter how much nuts/oil I eat, I don't seem to put on weight! However, I am just concerned about the right kind of fats I am putting into my body. Until the science is proven beyond doubt, I still have reservations about sat. fat. It doesn't help that I have a natural aversion to animal fats anyway - they nauseate me. In the meantime, I will concentrate on the mono and poly unsaturated fats which have more scientific backing as to their health benefits. By the way, just a long shot, are you the same Skunk in another forum accross the border? Edited January 22, 2010 by Triproton

Nope, I'm not that Skunk lol...so many people are stinky like me ah lol And nope, i'm not on any special diet now....I just love to eat pork trotters and fatty lamb chops...I put on a small amount of weight every year....hard not to, with my very unhealthy intake of alcohol....what im trying to say is that if anyone is unhealthy like me, better exercise like hell....when i go jogging, i run like someone is chasing me with a parang lol. That's pretty much what happens whenever some well-meaning person with "high LDL" starts eating "low-fat" frozen dinners filled out with corn-derived additives, all the while engaging in the customary ravaging of a basket filled with dinner rolls.
