actually it all depends on how much you have in the bank

you might be a fresh grad with 100k in the bank and after buying a cheap china car you still have 80k left over!

i think fresh grad with 100k in bank wont have to post and consider so long just to buy a china 2nd-hand car haha!

If a fresh graduate has 100k in the bank, he can buy a new BMW/MB straightaway by getting the balance also from parents; why to consider 2nd hand Chinese ones?

Interestingly, Salary.sg predicted based on few facts that $7650 should be the lowest income for owning a car here (follow the link below). How many of the fresh graduates get that salary? May be $7650 after 5-10 years??

In any case, $7650 is going to be the benchmark salary for buying new cars now as any B&B car costs close to 100k now!

$7650 salary is take home pay or gross? I think even after 5-10 yrs, even you are a graduates also cannot earn $7650. Unless you are in high paying industry. Normal manufacturing or service industry dont think so.

Not sure if it is gross or net and individual or household! What they did actually is that they found how much percentage owns a car and they simply assumed that only top income earners own those cars. On that assumtion, they found out the lowest income of that group, which is 7650!

Salary.sg assumption is quite straightforward. If we go by that, $7650 getters would drive Cherry QQ! [:p]

salary.sg article ish 2009 one leh! [crazy]

True. I could not find out a later version. Any way, the economy upturn is heavily offset by COE raise. So, interms of owning cars, 2009=2011!

sounds not far away in today's world taking into consideration a standard family man situation with two kids striving hard to be able to retire at 65.

yep household income.. imo it's a little high.

but maybe it meant a normal bnb car and w/o downpayment and being able to live comfortably as well.

and still be able to save a portion of one's salary.
