Hi Avantiz,

1.4A Getz gives about 10.5 - 11.5 km/litre. reasonable power with 4 adults.

and also if you plan to get a getz eventually, try out all the petrol to see which yields a better FC, Esso works better for me.

picanto shld give a better FC. Y not go down to the showroom to test drive picanto, and i'm not so sure if they are still selling getz cos i don't see it from the price list last month.

test drive to see how you feel about the space etc.

True true. Picanto have a nicer feel and look. Now need to source for a 2nd hand picanto (decent price) all over priced due to the COE price - 2nd gen is quite hard. Mainly is 1st gen picanto that are on sales in 2nd hand market. Getz is quite easy to find. =X Any 2nd hand car dealers to recommend??

the diff between 1G and 2G picanto is that 1G picanto has exterior body coloured interior trimmings on dash and doors.

in 2G Picanto's, the interior is all black/ 2-tone grey, and the dashboard and upper door panels use soft-touch plastics (top quality materials, making you feel like you're seating in a conti car liddat)....and comes with Power Driven Steering system VS 1G Hydraulic set-up....

3G Picanto is the sports model, and comes with mild bodykits, darkened out headlights and tail-lights, 15inch alloys (flower petal style), Kia's corporate grille and steering wheel, all-round electric windows, i-POD/USB connectivity, tinted windows....

HHmmm, so there isn't much difference in G1 and G2 of picanto except for the interior and exterior looks as well as the steering. Does the power driven steering in G2 make alot of difference when driving?

As for 2nd hand car shop? Any recommendations and what do i need to look out for when buy a 2nd hand G1 Picanto?

This part of wear and tear issue....reliability comes in usually after repair problems still unresolved or parts replaced leads to another new issue.

What TS mention is all parts & parcel of all kinds of cars, if not y warranty is given and even with warranty ends, no brands in the world can ever proof and guarantee that cars wun break down......unless you dun drive but keep the car at home for viewing. So long there is wear, surely there is tear rite....aiyo

You're so right, very much agree with you.

Like on my car for some time, and now want to change my car dvd player with gps, the original sense is not very good, and I want to be a good replacement. No matter what some of the problems with long, naturally, to die on the replacement, this is a very common problem. Do you think so to?

Due to our lovely COE prices, a 2nd hand 4 years old 1.4(A) getz and a 1.1(A) picanto is pretty similar in pricing. So i guess i will go with a 1.4(A) getz. As for maintenance, do you guys usually go to our neighbour country to do it? Since it's already way over AD warrenty period for the cars i am getting.

Jamesc: your 1.1 is auto or manual? how is your f/c like?

I drive to JB to service, even for timing belt change.

Maintenance costs is relatively low, if you buy parts from stockists and don't go back to AD for servicing.

I will PM you for the details of the shop that you do your servicing from after i get my ride. I really got no idea what to look out for when buying a 2nd hand car, the new car checklist seems abit too much to use for 2nd hand car. Any pointers to take note of??

I am not really in the need of boot space, as my work travel at most only need me to bring a laptop around. So boot space is not really a concern. Mainly my concern would be if i am travelling with 4 adults in the car, would it be underpowered for the 1.1(A) picanto. Second concern is that after checking on sgcarmart, both 1.1(A) picanto and 1.4(A) getz cost pretty similar if i am looking at 2nd hand cars lesser than 4 years old. If the monthly installment is pretty similar. Which would you recommend?

For picanto, most prob i will be getting the 1st generation of picanto.

Hi bro I am driving a 1.1A 1st gen pica...FC is generally ok. since you are in sales think mostly 60% city driving 40% Highway. Me a heavy guy but i usually dun put lots of things in the car. Mostly ferrying my wife/mum only, so minimum boot space good for me.

:D

mine FC about 14.5km/L on BHP petrol + V Power (from Msia). I did throttle and injection cleaning once every 25-30k servicing FC will go up to >15km/L. Standard servicing in JB normal workshop using CxxLxxe 5w40 engine oil. Only major servicing (eg timing belt change) will go over to MY AD to do it.

But if you need to ferry more passengers I suggest you get the Getz coz it has spacious interior and more legroom. :D

The monthly installment for a 4-5 years old 1st gen pica and getz are pretty similar now. So it eventually based on the maintenance of the vehicle, comfort and fc i guess. Haha. Still browsing through the endless list of cars, comparing and calculating. What is "BHP Petrol" btw?

yep...utimate decision still lies on the affordability. Since you only have half of the 1.2k monthly budget is best that you can get an affordable ride. The $600 you can save it for a rainy day yeah? :D

BHP is a petrol brand from Msia (orange colour) which i think previously is under BP petrol..have tried various ways for the best combination of different brands and grades and so far this is the best. Previously only take in V-power but currently they are selling at RM2.43/L so need to save a bit. [laugh]

Yeah. Job need me to drive, if not i would rather walk, bus, mrt around. LoL. Want me drive and yet give miserable transport allowance, they super smart. LoL.. So it's really down to affordability. Just wondering, i only got my license this year. 0 NCD. The insurance difference between a 1.1A Pica and 1.4A Getz, would it be a huge difference? I am planning on getting just 1 name inside e insurance scheme to try to cut down e cost and so on. Any recommendation? I read alot of forum stating that 1.4A Getz can only achieve arnd 10-11Km/L. What about 1.1A Pica? What's the FC like?

If you buy a relatively new car, you are unlikely to get any major problem.

My Getz is the older model about 5 yrs old. All 1.4 are new models and definitely younger than mine. The oldest is probably 3 yrs maybe.

If I were to buy a new car, I would have a list to check, but for you I think you should look at the more important things.

1. Look for accident damage. If you stand alongside and look from a sharp angle, you would see any protrusion or uneven doors. That would most likely indicate an accident car, which was repaired. Don't pay too much attention to small dings. It happens everywhere you are parked in Sg when reckless people open doors.

2. Look for colour changes. Open the engine compartment and look at paintwork inside at the most inaccessible location. That is the original paint. If it's different from the car surface, it is most likely repainted. Why it's repainted, could be owner like a different colour or got into an accident and decide to change colour.

3. Look at the engine for any oil leak or looks wet by oil. It could mean a head gasket blown and a repair cost. If you see water on the ground with the aircon running, it's normal. That's just water being discharged.

4. Test drive the car. If it cranks start once, drive well, brake well, then the car is in good condition.

I would advise you to get 1.1M Getz instead of 1.4A.

Fuel consumption is much better, less problem with manual gear than auto.

If you can't drive manual, then no choice.

Have driven the 1G Picanto 1.1A for 4 years. FC wise, if on AD package 14" Advanti 'sport' rims with 165 tires, Fc is 11-12km/l. Upgraded my tires to 175 and the FC increased to 10-11km/l. Also thing to take note is the fuel tank capacity is 35L and the low fuel warning light is on at roughly 29L. so, for me i need to visit the petrol pump every 4th day or so.

For 1G, there is no factory fitted central lock & remote alarm, got it locally fitted as part of the package. Locking & unlocking for the 4 doors is by physically push/pull of the plunger at the driver's window. Some cars may have a push button switch installed to ease this.

The thing to note is the locking/unlocking sound is quite loud and the actuator for this spoils easily. Got it changed twice (different doors) over first two years. This is the only serious grouse I had.

No major issues with this car as it is simple car and therefore easy to maintain.

The front 2 windscreen are electrical powered. The rear 2 windows uses manual cranking to wind up/down. Small problem for me (but maybe not to my rear passengers :D)

I find the boot area acceptable. Have compared with Yaris' and it's smaller than Picanto's. Getz is slightly deeper.

Cant really drive a manual. The door locking system sounds scary. Haha. Let's hope when i go down to take a look, let's hope they did their own central locking system =D
