Kia Picanto Reliability

the new FAcelifted Picanto with Kia's corporate grille is even more impressive....

however, the price is a little steep for budget car buyers,

however, with such stylish design now, it's building up the image for rich man's toy car....macham like Mini, Toyota Aygo....

if you see the Picanto in this light, $60k plus isn't a lot of money for what it is!!!

sure it isn't,

but the new refreshed design really makes it all the more stylish, funky and more hip with the fashion conscious....

the Mini looks a bit old and tired now, even with the recently (non-descripted and noticeable) facelifted model....

the Mitsubishi i (intelligent) sure looks futuristic, but the interior is nowhere in the quality league of the Picanto....

Just a few questions to all my fellow brother out there. I am planning on getting an Auto car with decent FC. I had 2 cars in mind, both are 2nd hand car which is around 4 years old. Need it for my work, the company's transport allowance cant really cover much if i get a new car or bigger car. So i am trying to go as budget as i can. New driver, 0 NCD.

1) 1.1(A) Kia Picanto

2) 1.4(A) Hyundai Getz

Which one would you guys recommend me? Alot of people are saying that 1.1(A) version of Kia Picanto is under powered, i do believe 1.4(A) Getz is under powered as well, due to Getz heavy body weight. So any one can give me some advice? My budget is around 1k-1.2k/month (half is covered by company, the other half is from my own pocket), including parking (home parking is free, office is being covered), petrol, insurance and some ERP, will try to avoid ERP as much as possible.

Driving pattern

60% of the time will be just me inside the car.

30% of the time will be fetching my lady.

10% of the time might tong pang her friends.

from wat i see, get Getz 1.4.

why, i think u need the space. 1.4 getz i powerful. 1.1 can get a getz move why 1.4 is underpower??? u won't regert

FC wise both should be ard the same. Maybe Getz will be more efficient.

maintenance wise, both should be ard the same.

now most impt. price, which is more managable?

small CC car is cheaper in long run :)

Searching on sgcarmart.com . My conclusion is both Picanto 1.1(A) and Getz 1.4(A) below 4 years old is around 25k-30k. Which makes up to monthly installment of around 400+ per month. So i was just wondering which one would be better to maintain and keep it running as my company need me to travel but the travel allowance is >.<"... Space wise i do agree that Getz 1.4(A) is much spacious that a picanto. Any more advices??

Due to the high COE, 2nd hand car also getting more exp than how they are supposed to be priced.

I drive a 1.1 getz and if both same price then get the 1.4 getz!

The space will come in useful sometime and the getz is better build.

Due to our lovely COE prices, a 2nd hand 4 years old 1.4(A) getz and a 1.1(A) picanto is pretty similar in pricing. So i guess i will go with a 1.4(A) getz. As for maintenance, do you guys usually go to our neighbour country to do it? Since it's already way over AD warrenty period for the cars i am getting.

Jamesc: your 1.1 is auto or manual? how is your f/c like?

The 1.1 getz comes a manual gear box. If you can drive a manual, the FC of the 1.1M getz is better than the 1.4A.

I am getting about 13 from my 1.1

Bros n sis with 1.4 can confirm for you but I think its like 11 - 12.

But I think worth the lower fc for more power if u get a 1.4 auto.

Can consider a suzuki swift 1.2xg. FC ard 14 - 15. If mostly urban drive, still can get ard 12..

its from a PI. not worth it

I did consider a swift. But the price for the swift is out of my budget range. >.<" A 2nd hand swift, monthly installment is nearing 600 per month. My transport allowance don't cover that much, so i was pretty much considering a car that get me from Point A to Point B would do, decent FC and decent installment.

you won't notice that the Picanto is underpowered lah....

the engine revs cleanly and eargerly, there's not much lag if you tap the accelerator a bit harder....

the Picanto also has more style than the aged Getz (the i20 is the replacement for this model, which was launched last year in European markets)....

the rear seat space in the Picanto is also beyond what you expect...it can easily fit 2 adults in there very comfortably (not snugly like in most cars)....

however, if you need the boot space, then no choice gotta get the Getz....cos the one in the Picanto is really miserable....i think the boot length at most 35cm....

This is singapore, and the Picanto 1.1L(A) will suffice....

I am not really in the need of boot space, as my work travel at most only need me to bring a laptop around. So boot space is not really a concern. Mainly my concern would be if i am travelling with 4 adults in the car, would it be underpowered for the 1.1(A) picanto. Second concern is that after checking on sgcarmart, both 1.1(A) picanto and 1.4(A) getz cost pretty similar if i am looking at 2nd hand cars lesser than 4 years old. If the monthly installment is pretty similar. Which would you recommend?

For picanto, most prob i will be getting the 1st generation of picanto.
