Yuan 6th Gear July 1, 2010 Share July 1, 2010 Just to add. Some cars like my current Passat, it's ok to leave the electrical stuff on because the ECU is "smart" enough to cut the current to all electrical stuff during cranking and switch them on only 2 or 3 secs after the engine has started up. But then, I still switch everything off due to habit. That is a good practice. ↡ Advertisement

Dunno Neutral Newbie July 1, 2010 Share July 1, 2010 er...they have meh???  They don't have an ECU but, however, they have lots of buttons, so many that you don't know which ones are the right combinations to press in order not to set off a nuclear bomb. For guys, there's only one on/off switch.

Toledo 1st Gear July 1, 2010 Share July 1, 2010 I think it makes a diff to the batt life. in one of my previous rides i used to switch off the AC and radio b4 i turn off the engine and the batt lasted 3+ yrs. subsequently when i changed rides, i din bother and left the AC and radio on when i started the engine. after all the car was 'smart' and both the AC and radio will not start immed when the engine is cranked. however, the batt all lasted <1.5yrs. for my current ride, the batt lasted abt 2.5 yrs but i think it is partly also bec it is located at the boot which is much cooler than the engine bay. Tom_kkh 1st Gear July 2, 2010 Share July 2, 2010 Hehe...it applies to all VW cars as well if I'm not wrong. I only noticed it when I forgot to off everything one day. Then after I start engine, few seconds later then the air con and head unit turn on. Actually, most modern cars has this feature, its nothing new, just that Singaporean got the habit of switching almost everything off. I know Kia caren confirm have. And i believe all those cars that comes with auto on headlights/wipers does have this feature. One way to test is very simple, like you mentioned, crank your key and see if your aircon/headlights/stereo(purposely turn on first) is off during the cranking and comes back again after the engine starts. Its much easier to spot if you have climate control, those knob type a bit tough to spot.
Mrmilktooth Supercharged July 2, 2010 Share July 2, 2010 Hello! Just some doubts that you guys can help: When you start your car EVERYTIME, is it better to switch off aircon and radio first? Or just aircon enough? Or it is perfectly alright just leave them on when switiching off and starting up your car? Read somewhere that it affects the car battery or alternator or something like that.. Cheers just insert key n crank...

Anyway my CS3 also will auto cut off when cranking the engine or iszi power all drained away to crank the engine?
