Ken4555 1st Gear July 31, 2010 Share July 31, 2010 hi all... i guess this topic has been spoken about many times... but i just wanna ask those who drive type Rs, Swift sport, mark x or actually... those who drive cars which needs a minimum of RON 98... i believe very much that using a higher Octane fuel than is required by your engine, it does nothing much except mostly wasting $... those of you whose car needs a Minimum of Ron98, when in MY, what do you do? add octane boosters? of simply allow the car to knock a little? i have mention before its so dumb to have a octane rating of 97... ridiculous... Ron92 i understand... many cars only require minimum Ron91... Ron95 yes some cars require it... Ron98 yes many high com cars require it... but Ron97??? on another note... say last month you pump in JB 40liters of Ron95... thats RM$72... pump Ron97 and its RM$84... difference of RM$12... if pump Ron97V-power, difference even more... and now 1st August price change, even more difference... if you pump 5times a month, thats approx RM$80 difference or more... and Ron97 price is floating so it might go up anytime... go down? so unlikely... And if in SG petrol and dollars... even more money to be saved/wasted... thats if your car DOES not need Ron98 and you keep feeding it 98... just want to urge drivers not to waste $ for nothing... read your car manual... find out the minimum RON required and stop pumping what your car does not need... save the $ for your girlfriend, kids, parents watever... rather than just buring it away into thin air... using better engine oil for a smoother ride i'd understand... but Octane higher does not mean better if your car does not require it... ↡ Advertisement Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

By right, the JDM performance cars will work best with Ron100 used in Japan, but as it is not available here, using 98 instead is ok though we may not get the full advantage of the car. Yeah.. non-performance, non-tuned engine using high octane fuel is like a lousy warrior using a good sword. Agree to use octance booster if pump RON97. An alternative is to retune JDM cars for lower RON (e.g. RON98 for Singapore petrol) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

They seem to have or have more additives for their higher RON petrol such that people feel more "response" when pumping higher RON petrol. I think that's why many people swear by higher RON even though it is not higher RON that gives them the better response... hmm... I guess we'll never know... He got a hard time as ron 100 is expensive, so he tried to pump ron 95 and struggle with pinging in the engine every now and then. Over here, people with cars that need only 91 wants to pump 100. I guess we'll never know... yes yes i think so too... but no proof... but i really think so... pump RON 97 today for the 1st time in my present car... butt dyno feels smoother... but my butt dyno ALWAYS feels the car smoother whenever i pump a new full tank anyways... Caltex used to have a platnium RON100 octance when i was still riding i remember... pumped it for my bike with no improvement watsoever... ahahaha btw yes the ECU (most mordern cars) will retard the ignition timing... but then maximum HP will be less... and fuel efficency not at its best... No knocking so far. what octane booster you use ah? i think most 'one shot' bottles only bring up the octane very little... like dont know how many points is only 0.5RON or smthing... not a subaru i guess?
