  1. Hi guys, I was about to commit a second hand about 2 years old A6 1.8 TFSI Ultra Edition. What is the pros and cons of this car? Tried searching but to no avail. Seems like there not much mentioned. Also, do you guys know how to differentiate the Matrix headlight? Heard that this is a very expensive option. Any comments and advises are welcome. Many thanks in advance.

  3. Hi there I put a non-refundable deposit for a Honda Vezel at Ubi Automart from Cars & Coffee. I read on the LTA One Motoring site that there is a recall for HR-V in effect on June 4, 2020, which says: Due to incorrect manufacturing of the rear seat belt assembly, the component attached was bent. The vehicle sensor and webbing sensor could be inoperative. I know Vezel has had issues in the past for the 2016 models and there were recalls of 8% of all of them. Do you think there is anything to worry about with the new 2019 model that I bought? I will be transporting my baby around and don’t want to take risks. Thanks

    Coaching for free

Hey all, At this time, I know many people are affected by the global pandemic in one way or another. I would like to extend this to all MCFers, offering coaching sessions for issues that you want to talk about. Some things about my background, I have training in behavioral psychology, a business graduate, and into NLP. In my course of work, I did some counselling and mentoring. I'm quite seriously considering getting certified Coach or NLP, as my next jump. Hence, I want to do something for MCF community and at same time, to prep myself for the new level. Before anyone PM me, I need to make some things very clear. 1. You need to recognise that there is an issue that you want to change in yourself. This is most important for any coachee, that he must be willing to change 2. The session is not a complaint session where you blame the whole world except yourself 3. We will aim to set some measurable goals to achieve by certain timeline 4. Everything will be kept private. I'm not going to come in here and bitch about we had talked. And I expect the same from you 5. We can have regular sessions if you are willing to and find that there are progressions along the way. I will do my best to pace and contribute 6. No gimmicks. I'm not going to make you pay something later. Maybe after CB over, you can buy me $1 coffee and talk somemore. Now because I'm not God, I can't solve everything under the sun. I think I feel most comfortable in talking in these areas in life: 1. Relationships / Dating (also includes "how to have a girlfriend", "how to date a girl" or "how to be a better boyfriend") 2. Stress / Happiness 3. Career 4. Parenting (I'm a parent myself) 5. Communication The session will be done via online: Zoom or Teams or similar. I aim to keep it to 45 mins max per session. Anyone keen, just PM me. Take care!

  6. hi all , need some advise here on steering wheel issue. like all other cars I've driven, the steering wheel will move itself back to center position either after making a turn or when I released my hands from steering wheel. I notice the steering wheel stays in the "turned" position , does not self center when I test drive(30-40km/h) a 2007 stream today. Have not tried making U-turn though. Mechanic told me there is nothing wrong because stream uses electronic power steering unlike hydraulics type. Maybe its really due to EPS but I still find it very weird to handle car like this. Any stream owners have the same issue?

US issues health alert on romaine lettuce

Salad lovers, take note... So far SG no advisory but just becareful. If kiasu n kiasi, avoid romaine lettuce for time being. This includes mixed salad cuz got romaine inside. Canada has also issued advisory to abstain from it according to CNA.. https://www.straitstimes.com/world/united-states/us-issues-health-alert-on-romaine-lettuce https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/health/abstain-from-romaine-us-canada-warn-on-e-coli-in-lettuce-10952288 WASHINGTON (AFP) - US health officials warned consumers on Tuesday (Nov 20) not to eat any romaine lettuce and to throw away any they might have in their homes, citing an outbreak of E. coli poisoning. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued the warning against all romaine lettuce just two days before the Thanksgiving holiday, when American families gather and feast together. "Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick," the CDC said, after 32 people were reported sick from E. coli poisoning in 11 states, with 13 of them hospitalised. One of those had suffered kidney failure. Health officials in Canada said they had also identified 18 people stricken with the same strain of food poisoning in two provinces, Ontario and Quebec. "This advice includes all types or uses of romaine lettuce, such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and bags and boxes of pre-cut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad," the CDC said, noting that it had not been able to pinpoint precisely where the suspect leaves had originated. "If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away," the CDC said. It advised anyone who had stored romaine lettuce in their refrigerator to wash down the shelves where the leaves had been kept. No deaths have so far been reported.

  9. Last Friday morning, I realised that something was wrong with my 08 Passat 1.8TSI's gearbox (only had 3rd Gear when driving forwards - No problem with Park, Neutral and Reverse). Even when I tried to change gear manually, or use a different mode, it still stayed in 3rd gear when driving (indicator is always 3). Hence it was pretty sluggish off the line, and to maintain highway speeds, the engine was rather strained. So, I drove straight to VW Service Centre. At first, the receptionist said that a Master Technician needed to take a look at my car, and asked me to have a seat at the lounge. And around 9am, she came by and told me that the Master Technician was still with another car, and that I should leave my key with them, and that they would call me back when they found out what was wrong with my car. I waited until 2pm Friday afternoon to call them, and that was when I realised that they had passed my "case" onto a Service Advisor. When I finally spoke to the Service Advisor, he informed me that there was a queue of cars waiting for a Master Technician to take a look. He then advised me that my car could only be seen on Saturday at the earliest. I then requested that he call me once my car was seen and to update me on the situation. Saturday morning came and went and after several missed calls, I finally managed to speak to my Service Advisor who apologetically informed me that my car had not been seen. He could not even indicate when my car could be seen, and that it is likelt to be Monday. I called again this morning (monday) and he said he would call me back... I called again in the afternoon... and he still hadn't stopped seeing his case load of incoming cars.... 72+ hours (3 days) of cars and no one can tell me if anything is wrong with my car (or if it was just a temporary issue). Are there so many VW cars at the workshop, or just so few technicians and mechanics?

    AC Issues

I have a weird AC Issue. It doesn’t occur in Singapore as drive max is only 1 hour+ Last Long weekend I went to Malaysia and drove my vehicle for 5 6 hours non stop. At around 120 to 150km/h Ac seems to not work after 3 4 hours of driving and was blowing out not so cold air. Front driver seat was fine but passenger is suffering. Upon reaching Singapore. Speed was reduced to 90 100km/h. AC start to blow out freezing cold air again. Temp gauge was half way point which is normal. Coolant EO all in its reasonable limit At the point of time. NSHW outside temperature is about 38 to 40c range
  11. Hi, I was looking at my G-plate commercial vehicle insurance terms and conditions. Realized that "geographical area" includes West Malaysia and 80 km into Thailand ! So I am planning to drive G-plate into Malaysia without getting the relevant permits from Malaysia side. I wish to know: How is the ban on Singapore commercial vehicles enforced? Is it aggressively enforced, or just another close-one-eye type of regulation? Exactly where do they do they conduct checks?
  12. HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam regretted that some contents of the remarks made by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the 18th Shangri-La Dialogue and on his Facebook page did not objectively reflect the historical truth, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng has said. She made the statement in response to reporters’ queries on Tuesday about the Singaporean Prime Minister's speech at the dialogue and the information posted on his personal website on May 31 saying Việt Nam had “invaded” and “occupied” Cambodia. Việt Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had discussed the issue with its Singaporean counterpart, she said. The contribution and sacrifice of Việt Nam in the joint efforts with Cambodian people to end the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime had been widely recognised, Hằng said. On November 16, 2018, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) issued a verdict on the crimes against humanity committed by the Khmer Rouge. The ruling reflected the objective historical truth, enforcing justice and ensuring fair restitution for victims, and was welcomed by the international community and the United Nations, she said. The recent accomplishments of ASEAN are the result of joint efforts by all member nations throughout the history of the association, the spokesperson said, adding that each member was deeply aware of the importance of strengthening intra-bloc solidarity based on mutual respect and common principles. As an active and responsible member of ASEAN, Việt Nam will continue working with other members to build a strong community with a central role in the region, the spokesperson said. —VNS https://vietnamnews.vn/politics-laws/520904/viet-nam-issues-statement-on-singapore-pms-speech-at-shangri-la-dialogue.html#MlxxxV4fd3fewqos.97

  15. Getting my new ride this Sunday. After reading quite a handful of issues encountered by people driving the same car, I am getting a bit paranoid. Since the implementation of Lemon Law in 2012, just wondering: 1. Has anyone actually invoked it? 2. How did the situation get resolved?

  17. Asking a feedback with you guys, Have you encounter when u booked online hotels through either agoda.com / booking.com / latestays.com Once you made the payment, reached the hotel, check-in process they asked for deposit of certain amount which is refundable when u check out. Is this their policy?? I encountered this, i felt disgusted. Since i have paid fully for hotel which wants me to pay full through creditcard, yet when checking-in they still ask for deposit. I only encounter this in malaysia selected hotels. Whereby those online booking website doesnt stated the requirement clearly, too smoky. Especially booking.com prices stated all "Exclude Taxes" Some websites "Included Taxes" Any tips to handle this kind of issues? Or better suggestion of online hotel booking websites. Especially Malaysia, as i go there frequently.
  18. Wanted to buy a new Harrier. But hesitate now as i heard that it has inherent gearbox issues. It results in jerky movement when trying to moving off and gear has tendency to slip. anyone here knows about the this? or if any harrier owners here experienced that issue?
  19. Need some advice. Just moved in to my new house for a few months already.. Brought in my parents in law + bro in law to live together as they do not have a place of their own. To cut story short. My wife experienced a very bad encounter with his father. I will not list them all but a few only He brushed his hands against my wife’s bottom while he was walking behind her While my wife was walking in the house, he was sitting at the dining and staring at my wife’s chest area. How she knew this was that she was looking at him right in the face all along. While she was napping in the living room, she opened her eyes and caught her dad staring at her. When he notice that she’s awake, he walked off abruptly without saying anything. This incidents has caused her so much distress and lose all the respect she had towards him. She has been locking herself in the room while im at work and feeling shitty every single day. Crying every time she recalled these incidents. She felt that she has been sexually violated. Tried telling her mom, but she brushed it off as it could be an accident and it can happen anywhere. Even told my wife to forget all about it. It has been a few weeks and the tension at home is really tight. What should I do? Should I confront him? Feeling shitty thinking about this issue. Having a new and big house doesn’t mean happiness is guaranteed. Dang!
  20. I am currently driving the above. Been having 3 unresolved issues up till now. Steering wheel sometimes pull to one side suddenly for no apparent reason travelling on an even/straight road. Do I need to do wheel alignment/tyre rotation and balancing? Steering wheel sometimes pull to one side during braking. Do I need to do wheel alignment/tyre rotation and balancing? Loud creaky noises from front passenger door when making full turns at low speeds (Occur whenever I drive the car out for the first time in the day). I don't know how to resolve this. Any kind souls can help? Thanks
  21. what do you do ? what can you do ? or can you do anything ? visited an installer yesterday to fix aftermarket alarm (entry level) for my 2005 imprezza. after the alarm fix, everything about the alarm worked swee-swee ... but when I drove the car off, I realized that the "D" light in my display cluster did not light up so I drove back to the installer. they opened up the cluster and said that the bulb had blown and they did not have any replacement bulb. so now my car only have 1,2,3,N and P, so what do you do when you go do something and then something else spoils ? worst part is they told me the bulb cannot buy outside also.

    Alex Au and Gay Issues

A lot of talk and court cases in recent times about gay and LGBT issues, including the penguin episode at our libraries. I wonder what the forummers here think of this very vocal group pushing for more rights. Personally, I am not in their camp. But don't flame me please.

  25. No more tearing of coupons and roving parking attendants - that is the idea behind a new "electronic parking system" being explored by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The system would have drivers accessing parking information and paying electronically from their cars via an "on-board unit" similar to the in-vehicle unit (IU) used in the Electronic Road Pricing system. Parking offences would be detected and transmitted wirelessly to central computing systems or mobile enforcement vehicles. The latter could also capture image or video evidence of parking violations and recognise licence plates just by driving past the vehicles of alleged parking offenders. These solutions were detailed in URA's request for proposal (RFP) for a "technical trial of an electronic parking system" last month. In it, URA outlined that a key aim of the system is to allow it "to better manage its carpark inventory to avoid congestion". Interested contractors have till Dec 2 to submit proposals, and preparation for the trial will begin on Dec 30, with the trial set to end by Sept 30, next year. "This is an ongoing effort to explore the use of technology to find a replacement to the paper parking coupons and at the same time reduce the manpower needed for enforcement," said a URA spokesman in response to queries from The Straits Times. The authority is looking for proposals that will tap advancements in areas such as global navigation satellite systems, vehicular Wi-Fi and automated number plate recognition. But the spokesman said the project is "exploratory" and that the authority will not be making changes to the current system soon. "For now, the best alternative is to continue converting more URA carparks to the gantry parking system where we can." URA now manages more than 46,000 public parking spaces here, of which 17,000 are on-street kerbside parking spaces. Such kerbside parking uses the coupon system, with enforcement carried out by parking attendants. Another 29,000 are off-street parking spaces, and 15 of URA's off-street carparks are equipped with the gantry parking system. National University of Singapore civil engineering associate professor Lee Der Horng, who specialises in intelligent transportation systems, welcomes the move to explore a new electronic parking system. "The future of kerbside parking could be quite competitive and this system would help both driver and the authorities to monitor usage and shape parking policy," he said. It would ideally be integrated with the ERP system, but a more sophisticated IU is needed to realise URA's vision, added Dr Lee. How the new system would work 1. A car with an on-board unit, much like the in-vehicle unit now, will let the driver know if there are carpark spaces nearby and process electronic parking payments. Once parked, it can prompt the driver to extend parking time when the session is about to expire. 2. Some roadside parking areas will have roadside units at spaced intervals to provide information on parking availability, rates and payments in the absence of Global Positioning System availability. 3. If a parking violation has occurred, the on-board unit can send details of the offence to a central computing system or a mobile enforcement vehicle (MEV) driving past. The MEV can also take images and videos of parking violations and recognise licence-plate numbers of vehicles it passes.
