Why settle for less than ideal partner?

Actually she is right in a way, I don't think it is wise to settle.

There are many definitions of ideal and it is subjective to each person. Some just want a rich guy/gal; others just want someone who is there for them. It may be realistic or unrealistic. As we grow older and more mature, we change our perspectives and when that happens, our ideal changes. We may change from wanting a supermodel to a homely girl next door. So the ideal is never cast in stone.

Love is part of the ideal in a way. Some will place the criteria that he/she loves the other party at the top of the "ideal list" but to others wealth or looks may trump that. That is why some marry for money, some for love.

But no matter what is your ideal list, I seriously doubt the wisdom of doing it. As someone who had been on this path, I can tell you the relationship is far less stable. I am hoping that I can be the rare few to make it work and I just hope I don't regret it in future.

If she is really in her 20s now maybe she got the luxury to talk about ideology but when she hit her 30s I doubt she will be keeping to her words. Most like likely she will be saying, "No more fish left..... so prawn, sotong or cuttlefish also can lah".

It doesn't matter if she is talking about $ or not. There are hundreds and thousand of men who are single and can meet her criteria. If so why so many women like her is still single?

I am of the opinion that this is the wrong footing to start off with relationship. The so call practical condition she specified can change in anybody's journey in life. That probably explains why so many divorce is happening faster than fashion. When you love a person you love the person for what he is, and who he is isn't it not?

Want to look for a rich guy....I think it's okay if the lady looks like the girl in your avatar. [:p]

I know of of someone who had a lightning marriage with a plump, pimpled face guy and shorter than herself too.

But the guy is rich, drive big car and running a multi-million family business....

Whether they had found the ideal partner or not? It's really subjective.

He can also ooze confidence and is funny and has a big heart....thanks to the multi-million family business....and that is attractive even without taking the money part into consideration

IMO, i think SG girls are generally "high standards"...

<_<

The local girls want everything. Looks good, muscular, tall, rich, drives a nice car, holds a good job etc etc.. must buy them LV bags, expensive watches, wine and dine...

But then... everything must match. To want someone of that caliber... they must be that caliber as well. And sad to say that those who are in that bracket don't need to list down what they want in their partner. Its those who fall short BY A LONG MARGIN that will list down their wants.

Totally pathetic.

Oh shucks. Of all the qualities you had mentioned above, I scored a big fat ZERO.

I think the writer simply lacks clarity.

Hers is not about ideals, but about someone who holds acceptable outlook/principals/values.

That is much easier to find than an "ideal". That's why she got flamed. Isn't journalist supposed to be clear in thoughts and writing?

Ha ha ha... the writer looks like she should not be looking for some 100% ideal also... she don't have the looks for it - sorry for speaking so bluntly.

I think the most important factor for a couple is that they must share the same "value system", be it ambitions, morals, ethics, etc. Do these 2 people value the same things in life? And personalities must match well, or at least, be complementary.

Personally, between me and my spouse - we don't share the same hobbies or interests, have different circle of friends, etc. Not 100% ideal then? But we value the same long-term goals, and have complementary personalities - one of us is easy-going, compromising and supportive when needed to be - and things work out well. [rolleyes]

Why are there so many singles in singapore? To me the problem is obvious. These people simply could not or did not get hitched during their poly or university days. The years rolled by, and once they started working, there's no longer any time for building relationships naturally. So, many will remain single.
