2ND hand C180K any good?

Dun tink there was ever a C200 BE for the kompressor models. But since the introduction of the new 1.8L CGI E200 & E250, BE is now the norm for c-class too.

 

Since so many models are using the same base 1.8L CGI, won't be long b4 some tuner is able to break the code for an easy reflash. [sly]

I was hoping that the old C200K BE will not be very different from the new C200 CGI BE in terms of the drive, century sprint and handling. With less torque, it is definitely going to be less fun. Will try to test drive a C200K BE to feel the diff.

 

The new C180 CGI produces the same 250Nm of torque as the C200 Kompressor.

 

Actualli, it's not juz abt how much the torque is but how easily accessible it is. I've owned both a HPT and LPT b4 and can vouch that LPTs are definitely more usable and fun to drive esp in our urban driving conditions.

Let me get this right, we have the C200K which has been in the market for a couple of years, it comes with a 1.8L engine that is supercharged, then we have the C180K BE which has a smaller 1.6L engine that is also supercharged, then came the C180 CGI BE and C200 CGI BE in early 2010 with 1.8L gasoline direct injection engine and LPT. So MB is ditching supercharging for CGI with LPT ....

 

Anyway, MB is really outdoing BMW in this naming game, the model numbers no longer bear any resemblance to the car's engine capacity.

 

I dun exactly care much about FC (not politically correct to say that these days), so if the C200K drives as well as the BE variants, I will shortlist it, Or should I wait for the CGI BE version to age a little (I usually buy 2 years old car only), it comes with newer technology and should thus preserve its value better if I were to sell it 3 years down the road.

 

On the new gasoline direct injection engine? Would our dirty fuel foul it up and lead to loss of power, thus requiring more frequent maintenance? My ex-Space Wagon GDI engine had this issue.

Yep, ur summary of the Komp & CGI models is correct.

 

The fuel in sgp is ok. Actualli, MB has had direct injection technology since the 50s. Mitsu has a whole lot of other problems besides it's GDI so not sure if that's the best example to base your concerns on.

 

Nothing wrong wif the C200K. But if u prefer the feel of a torquey TC engine, CGI is it. It pumps out a very respectable 270Nm from juz 1.8L.

If you are talking about w204...if i m not wrong, it was introduced in 2007. MB (believe Bimmer as well) usually change after 7 yrs although there will be some FL in between.

 

CGI models were launched this yr and if u wait for another 2 - 3 yrs...by then it is time for the new C class model liao...so MTL...

 

My advice...either go for w204 Kompressor. Model or get a new CGI model...

Will go test drive the C200K to know what I am getting into, was behind the wheels of a C200 CGI BE recently, hence my interest. No I won't buy new, at current COE prices, I could lose an arm and a leg 3 years down the road.
