So it's kind of like those universal remote which scans for frequencies.

With so many cars and remote door opening has become the standard feature.

It is true that that aftermarket remote controls are less secured?

I brought a box of car alarm from MY for RM$50 including 2 remote control. Brought it as it is too cheap to believe.

Maybe I can convert it into home alarm system.

abt the laptop detecting, it's true.

i know someone work in KL and it's a common understanding among the KLers that they'll not leave their laptop in car. even for the sales ppl who need to bring their laptop ard, they will bring it out of the car wherever they go...

I agree it's a good practice to bring your laptop with you, but I was more asking whether there is such a technology to detect laptops in cars.

erhh....it's not that high tech actually..

any electronic device that uses batt will give out certain signals which can be easily detected.

think the high tech guys are mostly syndicates, the normal car breaking-in guy doubt he'll have such device...

For my recent trip, I did the following:

- Park head-in beside a wall, steering wheel fully turned in the direction such that if vehicle is being towed from the rear, the left/right front will knock into the wall.

- Engage reverse gear.

- Use a steering wheel lock cable.

- Use a wheel lock clamp.

- Remove headunit (and other electronics) from sight.

Park head in + engage reverse gear...is this combo correct?

You seem agitated with 3 x replies.

Sorry dont mean to offend anyone or particular make.

Just a general comment and concern.

It's good to hear that Perodua has factory fitted original alarm.

I seldom use remote on my Myvi in case same security issue as previous Kelisa (car unlocked by other remote signals nearby). Once bitten, twice shy. This is a shy man?

Ultramega: I personally feel having a gear engaged (since mine is a manual) is better than free gear.

I agree on that. What i mean is, if you park head in, u need to reverse out of the lot. And yet u engage reverse gear... got use? Bcos when in reverse gear, the car CAN reverse anyway.

Ultramega: Noted. But as my car can start without clutching in, and since I usually park with neutral gear, I'm afraid I may just start my car on 1st gear and end up knocking into the wall. Haha.

if i am not wrong, if you engage any gear during parking, the car will be "locked" at the wheel unless u start the engines.

Its the same theory when we kick start the car when battery is dead. You engage first gear, step on the clutch and push. If u don step on the clutch, unless u are super strong, the car will have kind of a soft "lock" at the wheel.
