actually, so long u get yourself prepared, going underneath the car is not really that dirty/hard.

For any saloon car that was not lowered/front bumper bodikit, u dun even need to jack up the car, simply get a clean carton box and tear it so that u can lay on it when going underneath.... get another pcs of newspaper under the oil filter/ drain nut to avoid oil dripping on the floor.

If you want to DIY to save money, it's not worth the effort as oil changing fee is very cheap in Singapore. On top of that you have to invest in some tools not "toys' as they will only cause more problems and headache.

Agree. If stay landed, ok. But, HDB carpark is a big NO NO. 'cos (i) risk being fined (ii) risked being run over by other vehicle when lying on the ground.

Simple DIY like changing engine oil, bleeding brake fluid, replacing air filter etc are very common activities during the weekend for car owners ,in countries where people have the space. Here we have too many contrainsts.

It can be opportunity cost, it can be labour of love, it all depend on one's economic situation and reasoning.

I guess not for the money , maybe for the fun of it .

I diy it sometime if I got nothing to do . Very easy but problem is disposal of the waste oil .

Normally only do it in my JB home . If you dont like to go under the car , you can jack up the driver side , take the tyre out and the plastic mud guard out . I think you should be able to acess oil fiter and drain nut from there.

Saving ? filter $3/= , engine oil $25/= ( cheapo syn from Carefur ) . Money save enough for a pretty good dinner for family at JB haha ! [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

Sorry ..... dont call me cheapo , just like to save !

Everyone has their own hobbies and desires. To some changing oil and tinkering with the car is nothing but a waste of time, to others is plain joy.

Sometimes knowing a little more abt car can save you alot of trouble and money. simple things like checking your oil level and water level to ensure you have sufficient engine oil and water. Else an overheated engine is going to be expensive to repair....

just like I see clubbing is a plain waste of time and money. Go to Casino is even worse. Staying at home watching those drama serials also plain waste of time and electricity. There is no educational value in these shows at all.

I put the waste oil back into the oil bottle , just leave at the waste bin ( in JB ) . I think SG may got problem....
