No bridge to P Langkawi. However, there's a new (?End 2013) car ferry from Perlis.

Costs about S$250 round trip. Finding opportunity to drive there too.

Driving

For those who are driving down from KL, Johor, Singapore, and other places on main land, you may choose the nearest Jetty Terminal. There are signboards indicating the junctions to get off the highway, upon reaching Kedah, look for the sign "Alor Setar Selatan" and "Langkawi". After reaching Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis, you may park your car at the private car park which will cost around RM10-15 per day. Vehicle can only be brought over to Langkawi via cargo vessel (at RM200.00 return) which will take 1 night to cross over, meaning the vehicle can only be retrieved the next day at Langkawi Port (Tanjung Lembung).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW FERRY SERVICE TO LANGKAWI

CARS ALLOWED ON BOARD

PUTRAJAYA, 8 OCTOBER 2013: Langkawi Island in the northern part of Peninsula Malaysia has always been popular as a destination with beautiful beaches, verdant rainforest and choice resorts and hotels. In fact, Tanjung Rhu in Langkawi has been listed as the worlds 100 best beaches by international news network CNN. CNN also named Malaysia's Tanjung Rhu Resort as one of the world's best wedding venues.

Besides flying in to the islands airport, now tourists have the option of a new transportation service to visit the island -- the Langkawi roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ferry service that allows cars and other vehicles aboard, too.

Launched on 3 September 2013 by Langkawi Roro Services Sdn. Bhd, the ferry links Kuala Perlis Ferry Terminal and Tanjung Lembong Jetty, Langkawi Island.

With this new ferry service, Langkawi will be easily accessible to tourists, making the island destination a must-visit with the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

According to the Managing Director of Langkawi Roro Services, Mr. Ku Azhar Ku Abdul Razak, there will only be one trip per day when the sea-level reaches high tide, with

each trip taking about two and a half hours each way. The service frequency may be extended according to demand and if works to deepen the Perlis river mouth are undertaken.

Ticket prices during the promotion period (until 31 December) are RM320 per vehicle for a round trip and RM18 per passenger for a one-way trip. Normal rate per vehicle for a round trip is RM500.

Each ferry can carry up to 45 vehicles per trip and can accommodate 10 units of large vehicles like buses.

Kuala Perlis is about 600 km from Kuala Lumpur, 180 km from Penang, 300 km from Ipoh and 50 km from Alor Setar. It is the nearest of all embarkation points to Langkawi. Nearby attractions in Perlis are Padang Besar, a popular shopping haven for

both Malaysian and Thailand tourists, Homestay Ujung Bukit as well as Harumanis mangoes and grapes plantation farm.

Note:

Valid vehicle registration documents need to be submitted to the ferry operator at least 3 hours or up to one day before making the trip.

Ferry departure time is based on the weather and tide conditions and document processing time.

Promotion rate is valid from 3 September to 31 December 2013.

Wow, cool.

Thanks for affirming that.

So it's possible, but definitely not cheap and hopefully, not going to delay our holiday plans due to their specific timing and requirement

Sorry for digging out this old thread.

Wife going for a 3D2N trip to Langkawi next Friday with 2 girl friend.

Now ask me to search for nice Seafood for her.

I search a bit seems like not much information, even in tripadviser.

Any bros have any recommendations for Seafood?

BTW, they are staying at Four Season Hotel, it seems to be at a quite isolated location. Nearby like have nothing.

Dont worry they will be open until the last flights arrive as they want business. Just rent at the airport. Since there are several operators at the airport actively competing, you may get a good deal by hopping and shopping if you're up for it.

Just be careful with credit cards , for me i play it safe by using cash only.

Typically RM 50-80 per day.

We stayed at Frangipani Resort and loved it.. $150 SGD

At Langkawi now. Best to book car in advance as Dec is super peak anf you might get a take it or leave it attitude as I once experienced. But this time round as I am here before the Malaysia school holidays, I could have got the car rental cheaper at the airport.

Anyway, if you want, you can go to search for Enviromarine or write in to Natasha at [email protected] to enquire. I paid RM105/day and got a free upgrade to an Optima after complaining about the crap Wira they provided which had a spoilt speedo and dismal cosmetic conditions. Most importantly when renting a car in Langkawi is to make sure the car is licensed to be rent and that there is a CDW insurance.

For Eagle feeding cum visiting bat cave, etc, it might be cheaper to rent the entire boat rather than join others in a community or shared lainch. I am going with the same boatman I did 3yesrs back at RM220 for a bost. Can take upto 8 pax max. Call 0124361224 if you need this.

Had Arabic food yesterday and the Mandy rice was very good and cheap according to our standards. Rice is enough for 3. This was at Telaga restaurant at Pantai Cenang. Worth a try

Other attractions if one is driving to get around are the hot springs, cable car at oriental village, local craft like batik and glass blowing factory, waterfall where there's makeshift foot massage stall setip, crocodile adventure land, wild life park. Agrotech park.

Thanks for the heads up. I have booked my flight, but not accommodation and car rental.

Where are you staying now and how's the place and price? Are they strict in enforcing number of pax in a room (typically those superior/deluxe). I have 2A and 2C and I can't book any room when I honestly declare it. I never have any problem when booking hotels in KL with 2A and 2C in a typical superior/deluxe room with twin beds.

Is Dayang Bay Serviced Apartment OK? (location wise). Most likely need to book a studio suite.

Sorry can't advise on Dayang Bay serviced apartments as I've not stayed there before.

I am at Berjaya which is a tad out of the way and I require a rented car for that matter. Most Resorts don't impose strict rules unless meals are included. But to be honest, don't go for service apartment as most are pretty run down from what I can see when driving past. Depends on what you want to do. ... do you want quiet or prefer convenience? If you want convenience, then stay at Pantai Cenang area or Pantai Tengah which is slightly further down. There's a new establishment called Four Points which is run by the Sheraton. The resort was formerly Langkasuka and is about 5km away from the Pantai Cenang strech. Quiet area but not too remote from civilisation. Stayed here before when it was still Langkasuka and the room was pretty spacious.

Oh.... I'd advise against staying at Kuah Town area as there's no beach. It might be cheaper but it's just city life (old city if you're wondering). ... not what you should be doing on an island holiday.

Hi,

I stayed at awana porto malai langkawi seaview room. No beach but sea. Book island hopping from the hotel activity centre is cheaper than outside cos it depart directly from the hotel's activity centre.

Saw 4 dolphins swimming in their yacht area before sun rise from my room balcony. They swam away after sun rise.

I have 2 adults and 2 children too. They never ask me to pay additional but breakfast they gave only 2 adults.

Saw many "wild" small animals in langkawi. Very educational for kids.

Oh i forget to tell you, borrow or bring malaysia NRIC if you can cos some attractions got discount for malaysians.
