Price wise is cheap if you're getting "branded" tuning like ECUtek (which can go up to $1.5K), but expensive if done by a freelance (can be as cheap as $400). I don't think the stated amount of increase will affect a Mini's engine much. Soo long as you remember to do your regular servicing. Gains should be quite "feelable," so I think it's quite worthwhile

It depends alot on the tuner and how aggressive is the tuning. If you do it too aggressively, then there can be alot of wear to the engine. Pistons and even cylinder heads can get pitting due to fuel or if too lean to ignition timing too advance. Worst case is that you get a blown piston crown or ring land etc....... Valves will get a beating as well. I would say its worth to do a tune up to improve power but it cannot be too agressive (i.e. get every ounce of power out of the engine). Must leave some headroom, say 20% below the max.

Anyway TC ride to extract out 30hp is highly possible. PM u e price.

Fuelsaver Supercharged November 15, 2010 Share November 15, 2010 (edited) hi all gurus, just want adivce from you all that had done ecu remapping, i had been quotted around 1k+ for an ecu remapping that will increase 30 bhb and 50 torque will this causes great wear and tear to my engine? and worth to do? done my cpt w o*d tun**g at sub 1k. was informed of possible gain of abt 30bhp, no chg in boost pressure. so far w cvt trans, my feel is the constant peak torque range pushed up from 2500 to 2800 rpm, but able to rev to 6k rpm w/o losing breath. wen chg to tiptronic mode, oso torque range can spread over broader rpm range up to 6k rpm (stock 2500 to 5000 rpm). so in conclusion, i felt ecu really being remapped. but whether increased bhp & torque, i can't feel much. oni assurance was dat ecu maps from uk, so i felt more secure. other shop i enquired cost > 1.2k w road tune, wc i not so comfortable. Chpeck Clutched May 24, 2011 Share May 24, 2011 I don't think the "30 bhb and 50 torque" will definitely happen if you remap. Do a before and after Dyno to confirm if the new ECU map is yeilding any result. A typical Cooper S should get around 240Nm @1,400rpm. If the extra 50Nm kicks in during low rev (1,500 - 2,500) giving the total of 290Nm. I wouldn't mind paying S$3,000 for this.

Tailgatepro 1st Gear May 26, 2011 Share May 26, 2011 (edited) i was wonder how to add 30hp just for tunning without doing any additional hardware mob. Even adding fuel, what much can stock injector produce. at least change larger injectors, big throttle body etc Normally ppl adding light turbo+tunning+larger injectors only added 30hp~40hp. just my point only. MTRAC Neutral Newbie May 26, 2011 Share May 26, 2011 For N.A. cars, remapping normally increased by 10 hp and 15nm or so. Only turbo car can have 30 or above hp.
Vtim 3rd Gear June 12, 2011 Share June 12, 2011 For N.A. cars, remapping normally increased by 10 hp and 15nm or so. Only turbo car can have 30 or above hp. you are right, mine up from 139 bhp to 150 bhp and 189 nm to 209 nm and this is only possible with de-cat, SS 4-1 header, op muffler & cone CAI (was using Simota but now change to K & N Apollo), of course the drive is much better than stock, no looking for a high power output, else would have gone the FI route. ↡ Advertisement
